Hello everyone,

Newbie to 997 forum/ownership after 13 happy 993 years.

Now my question is this... has anyone upgraded their double din Sat Nav headunit from OEM stock? my 2004 Gen 1 OEM sat nav is ... well out of date and rubbish...

Has anyone installed (say) a Pioneer or Alpine double din unit with SatNav/Bluetooth/DAB etc and so, does that unit work with steering controls?

Interested in hearing from anyone...

Cheers JP

I have a 55 plate C4S and I have had the Sat Nav maps updated at my local OPC in Tewkesbury and similarly I like my Bluetooth options and music streaming so I had a unit fitted which links to the standard system keeps the original look and works a treat.the unit is called Mobridge and is around £450 + vat, you can also get a system which includes an auxiliary socket, I didn't go for that.

Hope this helps.

Steve

hi JP,

i got a lot of parts ready to do a similar upgrade in my 2006 997. check out NAV-TV for their MOS PUR upgrade interface unit that allows the integration of a double din head unit to the BOSE system. the steering wheel multi function will continue working if you install an Alpine or KENWOODS HEAD UNIT...........others might work but no guarentees from Nav-TV.

i have already fitted a Viseeo bluetooth interface to allow mobile phone BT to work it is about a 85% success and could be acceptable option if you dont mind having to clear the CD Multiplayer error every time to switch to AD2P mode.

Hi I have Just fitted pioneer touch screen with satnav an Bluetooth double din to my 997 I had to bypass the Bose amp Because of the optical cable but I have Odered the wirining harnes so I can use the amp again I also had the porche logo put on the start up screen [/Link]

This unit does that......keeps the BOSE working:

And this is the link for the Viseeo unit that allows Bluetooth connectivity to your PCM 2.1 unit

I am looking into the option of buying updated European maps DVD for my PCM2.1 as well... I can live with not having iPod connectivity... just means "dusting off" my CD collection... could be worse...

that viseeostore device looks great, and a bargain at £299 - I have been quoted upwards of £1800 for similar systems
however i can only just wire a plug.....not sure I'd want to attempt a self-install
does anyone know who could fit it for me?

Why you can if you wanted to....... Does your car have the CD Changer and Phone module as a factory option?

1) Remove the drivers seat (4 x Torq bolts)
2) Below the drivers seat you will now see a black plate that beneath is located and phone module. From memory this black plate is held down to the floor with 4 screws.
3) release the plate from the floor and gently turn over the plate to reveal the phone module.
4) the phone module needs to be unplugged as it is no longer used. (I still left mine mounted on the plate for future use if required).
5) Unplug the MOST optical plug from the Telephone Module and plug in to the Viseeo unit.
6) Using the double sided stick pad from the Viseeo kit I stuck it on the top side of the black plate.
7) Use a multi metre to locate both an earth and an ignition switched feed from the phone module wiring loom plug.
8) Connect the Viseeo wiring harness to these two connections either using scotch locks on the back side of the plug on each cable or by building up solder on the Viseeo wires until they are a snug fit directly in to the wiring loop plug ports. Tape up the plug to prevent short circuit and finish off the wiring plug.
9) Stick the Viseeo microphone on to the A pillar adjacent to the Sun visor hinge and tuck the wire along and behind the A pillar trim cover, around the underside of the floor door sill and then at the centre point aligning with the black plate and phone module across under the seat position.
10) Plug in the microphone plug to the Viseeo.

11) tuck the original phone module wiring loom and plug back under the mounting plate as to refit the mounting plate.
12) Refit the drivers seat.

If you have the CD Changer in the Trunk and you WANT A2DP (Bluetooth music) to play from your phone to the stereo system then you have to do the additional steps:
13) Change the position of the dip switch 8 from the instructions (this allows the music to be routed through the stereo by double pressing the CD button on the original head unit. One press is for the single CD slot and two presses is for the CD Changer).
14) In the Trunk remove the lower cover of the CD Changer by pulling it off (no screws just clips). Unplug the MOST optical plug from the cd changer.
15) taking the MOST cable that was supplied in the VISEEO kit take the plug end that fits on to the CD Changer MOST lead that you unplugged in step 14. Remove the optical cable securing part and pull out the optical cables. You need to make up a loop in this plug such that when you plug it back in to the vehicle MOST plug that you removed from the CD Changer it loops out the MOST circuit.
16) carefully tuck the newly made MOST loop inside the cover and replace the CD Changer cover.

Now you should be done. You now have to pair up the phone to the Viseeo and sync the phone book. Make a test call and see what happens. To play music you have to press the CD button x2.
NOTE: As I reported above, you will get a "CD Changer fault" reported every time that you switch on the PCM unit as you have looped out the changer. You have to accept the message once each time and that is that. Music sound really good through my BOSE system and none of the above fitting procedure messeswith anything that you can't put back to normal should you decide.

Thanks mate, my car has the phone module but not a cd changer
I've read your explanation 3 times and if I were to attempt it I'd have to read it 100 more times
However as you went to all the effort to type it for me I am going to give it a go!
Many thanks
