would have preferred a flip-out unit...

but the air-cooled dash design only allows for a 1-din unit.... []

The second DIN unit doesn't need to be in the dash. It houses the computer and is controlled via the head unit. So long as you can get the wires to it and put the DVD in the front slot, it can be anywhere. Luggage compartment? Glove box? Footwell?

am I getting myself mixed up ? what would that look DVD like on a 993 ? i.e. what unit do yo recommend

I was under the impression that due to the angle of the dash surround where the radio DIN slot it.. my guess is that it is not possible to have a flip-out screen as it would hit the dash before it fully opens.....???

OK being serious .... have you considered SmartNav by Traffic Master?

yes..... not really a fan..... i.e. using it to check an area out .. i.e. lacks more of a map function than just naivgation

as I'm looking to replace my existing porsche unit the look of the front nav unit is appealing..

and I prefer seeing the map ...

Don't know the 993 dash in detail so can't say with certainty. The screen angle can be set to whatever you want, when it next flips out it returns to that angle. Provided there is room for it to stand up and be seen it should work.

We fitted it to an A-class which has a huge overhang above the DIN slot, so we put the nav unit in the old DIN slot and made a new one, lower, out of the old CD tray. The head unit went in there and opened up to sit below the overhang.

The pop-up sreen does not fit it hits the air vents. I have seen somewhere on a forum photos where the vents were removed so the screen could fit.

I didn't like the look after this was done.

I quite like the original look of the Beker unit.

As I would not be using SatNav all the time only for long distances and European travel I think I would just upgrade my iPAQ PDA and use a windscreen mount the those trips only.

I started there, but found it often fell off. It was a bit of a distraction, trying to catch £££ worth of stuff during its tumble into the footwell.

Other people seem to have better suckers though. (story of my life...)

GO FOR THE BECKER. I GOT THAT FITTED RECENTLY TO MY 993 AND IT IS NICE AND TIDY AND IT JUST SUITS THE INTERIOR OF THE 993 MODEL DOWN TO A T.

THE OTHERS JUST LOOK NAF........GOD, NOT USED THAT WORD FOR AGES!

looks to now get a BECKER ! so I dont have to change my cd-changer......

looking to get the Becker Traffic Pro High Speed 7820
