In search of some front calipers

Got a call from Kevin @ EMC today...the bleed nipples on both my front calipers have rusted solid and/or already snapped off, and I will need to find some with good bleed nipples before the brake overhaul can be completed.

The trouble is...S2 front calipers are rarer than dodo poo...and whenever a pair comes up for sale by the likes of Porsch-Apart, they're immediately snapped up! Does anyone got any ideas on where else I can get a decent set in the next week or so?

I have had some success in removing broken/corroded bleed screws.
I would be happy to give it a go for you.

even if the nipples have snapped they can easily be drilled out and the thread re tapped, you just have to be carefull not to drill as far as the seat. I'm suprised they haven't offered to do this for you already!

They have, but apparently it's not always successful and if they go too deep it's going to definitely write-off the calipers.

The last time they were confronted with a similar situation (front calipers with rusted bleed nipples and no used ones on the market), they paid a brakes specialist up the road to recondition the old calipers at 75 quid a side.

Ah, sorry to hear this and for two reasons. Firstly, I have some new bleed nipples to go on my calipers and no doubt it won't be a quick job. And secondly if you are looking for some new/alternative calipers surely you're going to want to investigate going for bigger ones. And that way more expense lies.[]

Let us know how you get on.

Im supprised that the S2 front standard calipers are rare.??????? Who told you that... have you called Porschapart.???
The fronts off a 968 are the same....

Yep, they were my first phone call! They're not rare, they just go very quickly...I managed to buy a set of 968 rear calipers for my S2 from Porsch-Apart, but the front calipers from the same car went within hours on eBay!
