i suspect something is amiss!!

fuel range when i bought the car a few months ago was around 350 miles(mainly used stop start daily driving)and no oil use.
then about a week ago oil warning level low-takes 1 and 1/2 litres mobil 1.now showing about 250 miles to a tank full of superunleaded and oil already down to half level after maybe 300 miles.also bit of black stuff round tailpipes.

answers please(preferably followed by...and its allowed under extended warranty which i have)

cheers
dylan

Blue smoke from exhaust?

Possible oil system breathing problem or oil passing the piston rings, hopefully the former but it needs a visit to your friendly OPC.

dylian, hope it goes well, it should as you have warranty.

I take it that you'll be using Hatfield OPC. I've called there in passing and bought parts always found them most helpful.

If you're getting an excessively-blackened tail pipe, the engine is burning the oil, no just leaking it. Combined with increased fuel consumption suggests to me it won't be an RMS leak. Perhaps an air/oil separator (AOS) problem? Do you get a lot of smoke on startup - every startup?

no leakage at all on the garage floor.i have cleaned the tailpipes thoroughly and will observe them over the next few days.not much smoke at the moment so a bit puzzled really.maybe the boys at hatfield will point out a blindingly obvious problem tomorrow!!

Hi Dylian, What did they say at the OPC? Wasn't it yesterday you were taking it in?

Dylian, has the problem been fixed?

Was it air/oil separator? Valve seals? Piston Rings?
