increased output

hi, is there a simple way to obtain a meaningful increase in output? Am thinking of 968 for a road car, but with some track use, and appreicate the handling, but would like something "quicker" than standard.

many thanks

For about 6k you can get Neimeister to bolt on a supercharger and get at least another 100hp. Or for for about £100 you can fit a Promax chip, which may not add power but makes the car more driveable. Other than that traditional polish/port custom re-map/better air filter etc, but you will struggle to get much more than 250hp without spending quite a bit of money.

Hi Peter

£100 to make my 968 (1995 Sport, stock except for DAB radio!) a bit more driveable sounds very interesting since it's my only car and I use it everyday including for work.

Could I waste a bit of your time and ask you to explain what the chip does exactly and what's involved in fitting one? Is it a DIY job?I have reasonable understanding of these things but have never fitted a significant non-standard part to any car I've owned.

Many thanks

James

Peter is not around so I will reply.

The £100 Promax chip a lot of us use, works in various ways, firstly it is optimised for s'unleaded, smoother fuelling particularly around 3000 to 5000 rpm, also raises the rev limiter to 7100 or 7700rpm depending which one you fit.

Fitting is easy, the chip hides in the ECU box under the ply panel in the passenger footwell. Take old one out, put Promax one in. Never done one myself before and managed it in about 1 hr.

Probably the best bang per buck for a 968, visit: http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/

Thanks Paul, very interesting....

Having followed the link, I don't suppose you could recommend a 'cone type air filter' too? Exhaust will have to wait until the standard one gives up the ghost.

James

James,

A few people have fitted cone filters to the 968, but I have not heard anyone saying it is a must do improvement.
A good panel filter and a few strategically placed holes drilled in the airbox will improve induction but I don't think
large power gains can be made.
