Increasing premiums?

Afternoon all, just had my insurance renewal come through in the post, with an increase of £65? Anyone else experienced similar of late? It's on a classic policy and I haven't made any claims?

I'm with CIS ( not a classic policy) and I had a simular increase which renews 26th this month.

I did put in a claim two months ago for damage that I did but have protected no claims and the new policy still stated no claims made in last 5 years giving me 67% NCD.. well it's far longer than that in fact but they only bother going back any further..[8D]

My policy went up STEEPLY this year (not classic - 'tis my only car and a daily driver).

They usually do this, and I usually haggle them to something smaller than the previous year. However this year, despite my best haggling skills, I only managed to get it to match last year's policy.

I am told that premiums are going up generally, as a result of a) Stock Market conditions (insurance companies make money on your premiums by playing the stocks during the year you are insured), and b) The recession, causing more low-lifes to drive uninsured, which of course drives up premiums for everyone.

Sorry to hear about your premium increase.

Sorry to disappoint, but mine went down [:D]. I am with HIC. Premium was £288, classic policy, limited to 3000 miles, including trackday cover and agreed valuation.

Thought I'd just conclude this thread for interests sake, ended up moving policy to Heritage - £225 for 3k miles, agreed valuation, inclusive UK track day cover and full european recovery.

mine was roughly the same within a few quid and went down for the Focus (got an extra discount from Direct Line for being such a loyal customer. It's only taken 10yrs!)

Ben...my Heritage policy went down too (c £216: I passed a major decade last birthday?). Similar terms, but track day cover didn't include Prescott last year (hey, low risk as no other cars on the course at the same time, and my fault if I stuff it into the bank!)

As always I'm happy to report that when my last 944 was written off they paid up promptly in full, and dealt with the whole affair very efficiently.

I was rear ended whilst stationary, Oli! My premium did not go up as a result...worst of it was I'd only had the car 3 weeks and was just gutted.

So pleased with the way Heritage dealt with it all that I plan to stay with them anyway. In pursuit of the best insurance deal it's easy to forget that it may one day be more than just paperwork needed to tax the car!!

Would be interested to know what you are paying Oli. I just took out a classic policy with classic line, one of the very few who will insure a classic car as an only car (its my only car too). They have just agreed £368 fully comp, for unlimited mileage, kept on street in London with agreed value.

Edd,

That's a very good price! I am paying just about spot on £500 for something similar, with a 'regular' policy (and Class 1 business use.)

Classic line, you say? Will remember that.

I'm with peter best £220 with 5000 miles. and breakdown cover chucked in etc. Used them with some of the VW's I've owned and they always cheaper. Unless, you have modded your car then they are not interested. My golf G60 is with HIC with agreed value etc.

I insured my S2 Cabrio online last night with Aviva through RAC Insurance, unlimited mileage, SDP only, £250 excess, parked on drive, vandal cover, courtesy car, etc. for £273 but I am aged over 50 with 8 years ncb and live in North Wales.

I did get cheaper quotes - the cheapest being £206 - but that was with a big policy excess (£650 or £850, I can't remember which), no foreign driving, no ncp, etc. so it was not such a good deal in my view especially as I'd never heard of the Insurer.
