Independat Specialists - RPM

Hi All

I've just entered into the wonderful world of Porsche ownership with a 1989 944 S2. I bought the car from an independent specialist "RPM Porsche" http://www.rpmtechnik.com/ ...I am guessing that many of you will already be familiar with these guys but I thought that I'd share my own experience with you.

In a word, superb. Great rates with a level of friendly personal service that I've never experienced before. I've never owned a Porsche before but did use a BMW main dealer for a while who I thought were quite good - difference are:

a) the BMW labour rate was more than twice that of RPM.
b) the RPM mechanics know their onions and don't mind one bit if you ask them lots of dumb questions ...they didn't mind one bit when I wondered into the workshop either
c) whist I was quite impressed by the BMW restaurant, I couldn't help thinking, whilst sipping my americano, that it was all very slightly pretentious and of course, I was paying for the luxury. Far better then to be offered a straight forward cup of tea in the relaxed rural surroundings of RPM!

The car needed a few things doing before I could pick it up and RPM had it all done for me to pick up on the agreed date. Of course new car purchases somtimes have niggles and when you're buying a car that's 18yrs old it is almost expected. On the shakedown test drive before they handed the keys over, the mechanic noticed that the clutch pedal wasn't quite right (following a clutch plate replacement). No problem, they managed to get a new master and slave cylinder fitted whilst I waited.

So, If you live within about 200 miles of RPM, get your car booked in there for a service - or just about anything else that you can think of as they do all sorts. They even have a Porsche bodywork and trim company based out of the same office.

I'm off for a drive :)

Welcome Jamie.
RPM look after my car too, and those of quite a few others here, so you're in good company [;)]
Any chance of some more details of your new S2?
Best regards,
Peter

Welcome on board Jamie [:)]

RPM look after my S2 as well and I know what you mean about paying a hefty labour rate for shiny showrooms and Espresso machines. I much prefer to know my money is going on the expertise of the mechanic (oh, and the animals in the RPM farmyard :ROFLMAO:)

I cant say a bad word about the guys at RPM in fact they have been fantastic with me. Although my S2 has spent more time with them than me in the past 9 months with the many problems Ive had. But they have always kept me informed of the costs and issues and more importantly have given me as many different options and ways to save money, rather than line their own pockets - a refreshing change.

Another recommendation for Ollie and Darren at RPM, who have just done the belts and chain on my S2. Top chaps!

Hi Peter

Wow, I thought that I'd just log back in on the off chance that someone may have read my post and 4 responses already... says a lot about RPM.

Well, it's very much standard but in very nice condition for an 18yr old car. 120,000 miles, Grandprix white, black teledial wheels, clear lens kit, navy pin-stripe interior, recent replacement gearbox, clutch, belts, chain... oh, I bought a CS steering wheel which the guys fitted for me FOC. Engine, suspension are all standard. What else, the "magic" sticker in the boot is still there and the spare wheel and pump don't appear to have ever been used. All in all it's everything I could have wanted and thanks to RPM it should go on for quite a few more years yet.

...the pictures of it are still on RPM's website; showing as sold of course! -

Yup, definately GP white, made my car look very off white and dirty in comparison. Just wait till I finally get it re-sprayed though![;)]

I'd go for base white with no colour mixed in at all. There was a Datsun of some sort in Retro Car once that was sone like that and it looked fantastic.

just adding my vote as another very happy RPM customer. They have carried out quite a lot of work to my turbo this year, including fitting the KW kit. Service has been superb. Darren also managed to sell me one of their new exhaust back boxes, which is a nice bit of kit - just the right amount of growl without being too noisy

The chaps at RPM are knowledgable and in particular Darren's advice helped me buy my car. If I lived nearer, they would be my preferred service centre too. Highly recommended.
