Hi All
I've just entered into the wonderful world of Porsche ownership with a 1989 944 S2. I bought the car from an independent specialist "RPM Porsche" http://www.rpmtechnik.com/ ...I am guessing that many of you will already be familiar with these guys but I thought that I'd share my own experience with you.
In a word, superb. Great rates with a level of friendly personal service that I've never experienced before. I've never owned a Porsche before but did use a BMW main dealer for a while who I thought were quite good - difference are:
a) the BMW labour rate was more than twice that of RPM.
b) the RPM mechanics know their onions and don't mind one bit if you ask them lots of dumb questions ...they didn't mind one bit when I wondered into the workshop either
c) whist I was quite impressed by the BMW restaurant, I couldn't help thinking, whilst sipping my americano, that it was all very slightly pretentious and of course, I was paying for the luxury. Far better then to be offered a straight forward cup of tea in the relaxed rural surroundings of RPM!
The car needed a few things doing before I could pick it up and RPM had it all done for me to pick up on the agreed date. Of course new car purchases somtimes have niggles and when you're buying a car that's 18yrs old it is almost expected. On the shakedown test drive before they handed the keys over, the mechanic noticed that the clutch pedal wasn't quite right (following a clutch plate replacement). No problem, they managed to get a new master and slave cylinder fitted whilst I waited.
So, If you live within about 200 miles of RPM, get your car booked in there for a service - or just about anything else that you can think of as they do all sorts. They even have a Porsche bodywork and trim company based out of the same office.
I'm off for a drive
