Independent dealers vs OPC

Just a question around whether anyone has had any experience of buying a used car from the likes of RSJ etc? They offer a 1 year warranty, vs the 2 year warranty you get from an approved used Porsche. I am trading in the 996 for a Cayenne shortly and was worried that indpendent dealer cars are not as thoroughly checked, or would this be wrong? cheers

RSJ is a thoroughly well respected outfit and Joel stands by his cars and warranties. Friends have bought cars through him and he's been a true gent.

Hi

I recently put a deposit down & stipulated that the purchase was subject to a clean OPC health check & Rev range report which i received.

Regards

Karl

Hi

I have used opc in the past and it's fine when they are ok when selling you a car but that is where the customer service stops,I have just started to use Tewksbury and must say they are better I did not buy my Panamera from them and hey are not my closest Porsche centre but so far so good.

on the point of the Cayanne give it a miss and buy a Range Rover they are the best four by four by far.

all the best

Mark

That is interesting about getting the clean OPC 111 point check. So Joel was happy for this to be done and was confident for this to be done, that is good news. I will find out who the nearest OPC to RSJ is. Range Rover are awesome inside BTW, but don't handle a patch on the Cayenne! cheers

An independant Porsche specialist check is 4 times more useful than a visual 111 point check from the OPC which is only cursory and for basics.

RSJ please read it again and note the rapidly reducing warranty cover. All respectable specialists need to offer at least 6 month warranty just to be inline with the sale of goods act. So anything else is not a good sign.

Reputation is more important, so people like JZM, Northways, RSJ 911 virgin should all be good alternatives to the OPC you just need to way up whether its worth the extra cost vs increase warranty. The independants should be able to provide 2 year warranties at a cost.

Personally I would allways use an independent like JZM, got my 996 Turbo from them, not cheap, but you get what you pay for!

We bought our 996 last year from Northway. We felt it worth paying out to have an independent inspection carried out by Peter Morgan, just to be sure that the car was as good as Northway claimed it to be (it is). We did the same with our 3.2 when we bought that 16 years ago as well, I know that having an independent inspection isn't a guarantee that problems won't be there, but that, coupled with the 12 month warranty provided as standard by Northway gave us a large degree of confidence in making the purchase.

The independent inspection report also gives some leverage to getting any niggles sorted prior to purchase, we had the O/S A/C radiator replaced as it was leaking slightly, and also both front tyres replaced due to their age (still plenty of tread), at no cost to us.
