Indicator bulb change - screws are shredded?

Just been out in the garage to put a new front indicator bulb in (hence the other thread on bulbs) and having taken off the rubber buffer I now find that the heads on the screws holding the light surroung have all been kindly rounded off.

Any tips or hints on a good way to get them out? Are they likely to be rusted to buggery?

A common problem I think.

I don't know what the answer is, but I do know that replacement light units are more expensive than you care to think about. (And this IS relevant if you end up screwing the job up and ruining most of the surround.)

I think that if you can remove the screws by mechanical means (cutting a slot in the top or drilling them), and manage NOT to mangle the light unit, you can replace them with self-tappers. And sensible advice would probably be to use stainless screws next time 'round, or smear them in grease and not do them up too tight.

Oli.

It's a real shame that which ever previous owner whoever shredded them didn't engage their brains rather than leaving the mess for next time.

It's also a real shame that it wasn't a rear bulb as these are considerable easier to get at.

A dremel with a small cut off wheel and a steady hand will put a slot in the screw head, then use a flat blade screwdriver to remove.

Bought one last year from OPC Exeter - IIRC cost me under £30 delivered...
But don't quote me on that -= check with Chris Radan Exeter OPC

Can't add a second message in such a close space of time !!! How useful is that.

Having read the posts again - need to correct - sorry was in a hurry, being called elsewhere by she-who-must-be etc etc

mine was for the Headlamp cradle and even included some new mounting screws.
