Indicator Failure (oil)

Evening all,

A couple of times in the past I got a brief warning: An Oil Can Icon followed by the words "Failure Indicator". It would only appear on the dash for a second and disappear. Tonight it happened again but this time the warning stayed on for quite a while and in the meantime the oil presure gauge danced between zero and back to normal a few times. Oil level is good and no red oil pressure warning on the dash so I assume this is the oil pressure sender failing. Does this sound familiar and can anyone tell me where it is and how easy is it to change please?

Thanks,
B

It does sound like the sender. There are two outputs - one for the light, and one for the gauge. The contacts don't always fail at the same time, hence why you get one warning and not the other.

On a Turbo, the oil pressure sender is on the top of the engine, tucked behind the oil filter housing. I'll leave it to you to decide the degree of difficulty once you find it!

I had this. It was the oil pressure sender, which is apparently quite common. Part is not expensive, but it's a real b*tch to get to!!!

You can just about reach the sender on a turbo (getting it out would be whole different ball game) and giving the connections a good poke can help sometimes.
