Has anyone any idea as why my indicators have suddenly stopped flashing.. They flash with the hazard swich so not the flasher relay unit thing, but when you use the stalk the dash light illuminates but does not flash!!
Any ideas will be greatly accepted.. thanks

Dave.

Hazards have their own relay, it's the flasher relay that's gone. It's a common VW part so easily obtainable at any local factor for a few quid.

I had this last year (out of the blue), since I changed it the indicators flash at a slightly different rate from before & for the first few days it felt like it wasn't my car [8D]

Odd how the little things go un-noticed until they change [;)]

Thank you, where is the relay? as on my other 944 the relay seems to be the same for both hazard and indicator, but I may be wrong, hopefully as this blooming car seems to be riddled with elecrical problems, that will be it!!

Don't know where the hazard relay is, I've never had it fail [:D] It may even be inside the same physical relay box but I can assure you when my indicator relay failed the hazards still worked.

what model and year is your car Dave ?
If you look under the fuse and relay cover there should be a printed schedule there .

If its a series one car then itll almost certainly be the switchgear - shared with early Golf, Jetta, Scirocco, Passat, AUDI 80 etc. Ive had this similar problem in a number of cars. If its a series two car then it could still be the switchgear (shared with the 928, so no cheap alternatives...) although I havent ever had a late car fail in that way.

It is an 86 944 lux, should I change the indicator switch, if this will cure it as I am running out of patience with this car at the moment... It is singularly the most unreliable vehicle on the planet (electrically)

1986 = series two, so it could be the switchgear; although Im less confident than I would be if it was a series one car.
