Indicator problem

My indicators have stopped working on my 72 S and the fuse has blown twice. Before I rip into the wiring looking for a short. Has anybody else had a similar experience and might be able to suggest a specific trouble spot?
I'm getting quite good at hand signals though, except you have to remember to get the window down first...

Peter - the most common problem is earthing of the bulb to the holder - try unscrewing the lamp holder and making sure everything is clean with no corrosion - then check the spring contact that the bulb sits on - I've found that these can loose their springiness (sp?) after a while - gently bending these up will return the contact.

Your car being a 72 - it should have hazard lights - because the lights are wired into the loom, if the relay has blown this can cause the lights to fail - or the fuse to pop.

Went thru similar lately ,especially trying springy bit .............turned out the actual bulb was too loose in the holder !Kinda undersize !Another bulb and whoopee...................

Vic's problem may have been exactly what mine was. I went round all the signal units, cleaning up the contacts and making sure the screws in the fuse holder were tight, then I noticed that on one of the bulbs, the metal base was loose on the glass bulb. I switched it for another bulb and now it all seems to work.
Thanks for all the very useful input on this.
