Indicators don't cancel

A while ago the indicators began not to cancel every time, and this progressed to the point where they never cancel. Now I don't believe that this is an MoT failure issue, because I don't think it's tested, although it is potentially pretty dangerous - think of those times when you've forgotten to cancel a left turn indication, and the guy in the road on the left assumes you're turning and pulls out! Anyway, the problem has got worse and sometimes the indicators won't even latch, which I think is an MoT failure. Can anyone tell me what part has failed - it seems that there's probably some plastic tab that's supposed to actuate the cancellation mechanism and that's worn or broken? I need to sort this quickly as MoT is due this month.

Many thanks

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. The plastic tab within the turn indicator mechanism that is attached to the turn indicator stalk broke off and the only solution was to replace the entire three stalk mechanism. It wasn't much more expensive to get retrofitted cruise control by replacing the three stalk fitting with the four stalk fitting. Done by WrighTune in Wallingford, Oxon. http://wrightune.co.uk/cruise.html

OK - thanks for your reply. It's actually the 2 stalk version that I need for this car, and I see that they're on ebay for around £130, so I'll probably go for that. The cruise control option would be £615 and I don't have the onboard computer anyway.

hmmm, retrospective cruise control is a must for me, maybe not an instant job, but its one thing i miss from my daily driver, and it stops me having a heavy right foot! :)
