Indicators

I keep finding that I forget to cancel the indicators in my Porsche, it's really embarrassing and I don't have any problems in any other car.

I've been aware for some time that I am not hearing the audible 'click' of the indicators but I put it down to engine and road noise drowning it out. However, I was out with my wife in the car yesterday and we both came to the conclusion that it really is very quiet.

Is this a common problem with the 996? Can it be adjusted? or what needs to be replaced?

Any help would save me further embarrassment

Hi David
You are not alone, mine and a few others that I know of do the same.
Not sure if a replacement stalk is a total cure.

There's nothing else that would cure it "apart from that nut on the wheel maybe lol"

Get it done because I think if you MOT station is checking properly its actually a fail.

They are the crappiest stalks EVER!, If my car is cold inside I literally fear to use them as the plastic parts are so brittle.
Same guy developed the 996 RMS and IMSB.

I think that David is talking about the quietness of the audible tick-tick when you operate the indicators - not the self-cancelling of the stalk.

I'm not sure anything much can be done about it, other than replacing the relay and hoping to get a louder one.

Hi

Yes Richard is right - I was talking about the noise from the relay, I hadn't realised that it is just the noise from the relay that you hear.

However the others that responded to my question might not be too far off the mark in terms of the root cause of the problem. I was talking to a friend who also has a Turbo, he can't hear the relay on his car at all, but does not suffer this problem.

I'm now wondering if it's not cancelling properly. I'll keep an eye on it.

i'm only assuming that's the case. I don't think there is anything in the instrument cluster which generates the sound.
