Indoor Car Cover

Has anyone got any recommendations?

Am looking for something that's soft and breathable, dust proof (obviously!) and with elasticated corners.

Am also after something that doesn't cost a fortune.

These look like decent value, but I'm not an expert in fabric!

Also,

To take the word "carpet" litterally, I'm thinking of putting one in the garage. I haven't gone mad - I've got a spare one coming up in the house due to decorating soon (looking forward to that - not).

Is it a good idea?

Is it a good idea?

An interesting question, particularly as we are about to build a new garage. I have carpet in our current garage, only because it was there when I moved in, but I'm not sure if it is a good thing.

Carpet obviously provides a degree of insulation, which is good; but will also retain water if you put the car away wet. Parking a car on damp carpet must be about as good as parking on damp grass, it will retain a nice damp atmosphere for days []

On balance, I think you would be better not carpeting your garage but paint the floor to form a membrane to stop damp comming up from below. I think, with my new garage, I will also build in a run of air bricks, just above the floor, to ensure I get a good flow of air under the car thus reducing any damp.

When you think about it, how many F1 and WRC teams carpet their workshops. If there was any benefit to be had from carpeting the floor you would be sure that they would do it.

That's what I was worried about, but as I don't use the car in the wet, that won't be a problem.

I already painted the floor (nesting as my wife calls it!)

My Dad always used to have a carpet under his old MG, and that remained rust free in the garage for 15 years (again it never came out in the wet!)

The garage gets quite cold (oop North as I am), so thought it might help a bit with taking some moisture out the air?

If you are going to keep the car dry,as you sugest, then carpet could be a good thing as it will insulate the car from the floor and reduce the possibility of condensation forming on the surface of the floor.

Just don't let the carpet get wet.

hi there if your after a car cover then look no further than specilised car covers you will see there add in the back of autocar and things, there based in bradford and if you ask for a bloke called doug long he will look after you (owner). as regards to keeping your garage dry i have a de-humidefire in my garage and its amazing invest in one you will never look back!!
