INDUCTION KIT

Hi Happy new year to all forum readers!

Could some one please advise me which induction kit would be best for my 1990 C4. No mods just the normal engine spec? I am completing my wish list for 2010 and have this item open. I wish to install a twin outlet rear exhaust as well and see there are a few good options available. I hope to undertake the work in March this year.

Many thanks Michael..

I would steer clear of anything that doesn't have a cold air feed as they will reduce the power rather than increase it!!

Nice induction noise is great but not at the expense of power![:D]

This FVD kit seems to have received some attention lately:

FVD induction kit

FVD mentions at the bottom that it is more for track use and not recommended for purely street use. This would make me think that there could be issues like stalling or maybe it doesn't work well without lots of air flow (therefore you need to be going at high speed to take advantage of it).

I'm normally not one for fitting power upgrades (I've concentrated to date on improving handling and reducing weight) but I must admit that it does sound interesting.[8D]

Not for noise or power just wanted to do away with air box as its broken and looking for the best option.these kits are way to expensive for what they are so i think ill copy one of them lol.

That looks like the full on MAF kit, rather than just an induction one?

Might put it on my list for next Christmas though...![;)]

Yes, sorry I thought we were discussing full on replacement MAF induction kits. I too wouldn't change just the standard filter for a K&N cone or panel filter without doing anything else to the inlet. I've seen enough on Rennlist to persuade me that they only produce more noise and can make the car a bit asmatic when the engine bay gets warm. Standard box and Porsche paper filter seems to still win over the aftermarket air filters.

Might try the same trick about the MAF induction kit if asked next Christmas! [:D]

I see from your profile that you have KWs V3 on your car. How do you find the set up? I have just been talking with Paul from 9 Meister about this option but I do not want the car to be so ridgid. I have the original system at the moment on 1990 C4. Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks Michael..

Both Steve and I have KWs fitted. The car feels great with a 'nuggety' firm ride at low speeds that then smooths out the faster you go, with superbly controlled damping.

The car feels light on its feet if that makes any sense, although part of that may well be down to the RS alignment settings.

As Nick said the KWV3 system is very compliant on the road especially if you have the bump and rebound on the softer settings. The beauty is that it can be firmed up with the use of an allen key for track work. The ride and handling was like night and day after fitting the new suspension.

Hi Michael,

I agree with both Steve and Nick's comments re the KW3s. I had them fitted last March, along with powerflex bushes all round. I appreciate that my struts were failing but the difference was amazing. The car is alot tighter and gives you so much more confidence on the road and track. As Nick says it is slightly bumpy when driving slow around town but it is not at all uncomfortable. Not sure if they are still doing the offer but I had the suspension and all bushes replaced at AMD (Oxford and Essex) for £1,850 inc VAT and fitting.

I was due to have the engine rebuilt but they put it on there rolling road and were very honest and stated that as it was producing an average 281bhp, as long as I was happy to put up with a slight leak (I think most of us have to !), then there was no need for the rebuild.

Hi
Many thanks for the updated information the street kit looks great. I am not sure if I can fit that in to the budget this time. I am looking forward to having the exhaust changed in March for the dual outlet type. Depending upon the out come of the yearly service I will see what upgrades I can afford without blowing the bank account.

Thanks for all your advise so far!

Regards Michael..

Im just doing some research and trying to sort out some kind of logical list for upgrades etc.[:D]

I came across this...

does anyone have any experience/opinions to the MAF system in comparison to the FVN system?
