Induction kits

Thinking about fitting an induction kit to my 1990 C2.
Any information about -----make, type, etc
Thanks
Geoff.

Geoff,

what I would say is that if you drill the airbox, fit a K&N (or equivelent) and junk the final silencer you should gain at least 5hp - I did with mine. It is cheap and you spend the saved money on optimising the chassis which will make the car in effect faster.
The other option is to through overboard some of the extra weight!!!

I have an e-mail from RUF informing that the best way to optimise the air-box on the C2 / C4 is to drill 4 X 25 mm holes in the bottom. Alternatively, some people have more radical ideas. Drilling holes in an airbox may stop it acting as a resonator. This effect is often used by manufacturers to assist in the cylinder filling (torque).

I don't know about you, but there are several Nova 1.1's driving in my town that because they have an open filter fitted, sound like a drainpipe, and also, go very slowly.

Here's another idea.

I looked into the whole induction kit thang about a year ago and came to the conclusion after much debate with like-minded petrolheads on forums such as rennlist and pistonheads that there is no cheap way of gaining power (although they look cuter than the standard filter box). I decided to dig deeper and see what the likes of g-force (or similar) can offer with a hot foil/film conversion (not sure on correct term) [:)]

I have run both a simple induction cone and standard airbox over the last 18 months on my 964RS. Like any other modifications there will always be different schools of thought and decided to run both to get a real first hand experience. My feedback is as follows:

1. Induction Cone: Certainly made the car sound a bit different, more of a deeper low down bark, little loss of pick up at low revs, but once you were up to 4000 RPM it would certainly start to hum with a very sudden and audible kick at about 5000 RPM and even greater punch and a much louder mini sonic boom at 6000 RPM while on full resonance, echoing throughout the cabin. It certainly came in to it's own while maintaining higer revs.

2. Standard Drilled Airbox & K&N Filter: Returned to this set-up for the moment, giving more lower down torque and pick up but still maintaining a steady and smooth delivery of progressive power all the way to the top, without the sudden and dramatic power surges of the cone......not such an echoing boom.......[:)]

I would say the cone certainly gave some extra BHP at the top, but with a small sacrifice to mid and lower range power. The cone is very much a raw bit of kit giving a different dimension to your car that you may never know. Try it....very simple to fit and change...it's the only way you will really know.
