Indy garage recommendations

Hi, just thought I'd ask if anyone in or around the Farnham (GU10) area has any recommendations for local-ish independent garages? Don't need to be a porsche specialist IMHO, just conscientious and interested.
I struggle to do my own maintenance now due to no garage and a clean drive! I've previously put a tarp down to catch crud, but it's never that satisfactory...changing the oil filter always ends with a messy engine bay and drips on the driveway...any tips?

I just had a quick look on Northway Porsche (they're probably my closest indy and I've used them many moons ago) and noticed that the 944/turbo has the most costly minor service cost of any porsche. Would you believe it!

Could well be. I used to be a member of a car maintenance club when I lived and worked in North Wales where you had use of a couple of lifts, ramps and specialist equipment. Haven't managed to find anything like that since I moved down south. Anyone heard or know of anything like this?

I'd unhesitatingly recommend Northway. My car has been looked after by them since I got it, 10 years now, and they are knowledgeable and reasonably priced. A friend's 968 cylinder head was recently rebuilt there.

Far from not wanting to work on 944s, they are particularly good at transaxle cars...Ray Northway trained with Porsche when these cars were current, I believe, so there's no problem you might have that they haven't already dealt with. They know what they're doing. Several R19 members use them too, and it's also handy that they're walking distance from Aldermaston station if you leave the car there.

Over on 968uk there are 3 or 4 members in Medstead, not too far from you, one of whom (Warby, Rich Warburton) is Assistant RS for the 968 section on here. Be worth a PM to him to ask the question (although he does a lot of his own maintenance).

Over near Gatwick is Nine Excellence, the owner (Ken Napier) bought my 968 coupe a few years ago, one of his mechanics at the time was ex Porsche Portslade (now Mid Sussex Porsche), recognised my car having worked on it some years before. They certainly know transaxle cars.

Why are Northway charging most for a 944 service then when some OPC's have lower rates for the older models ?

I've just had mu 944S2 serviced, gearbox oil, track rod ends and tracking done at Nine Excellence at Horley. I would recommend them they also did my clutch all good work.

Probably to cover the cost of cleaning the floor after our damned oil filters make such a mess on them :ROFLMAO:

In all seriousness, if you check Rays website you'll see that his 944 minor service includes spark plugs, whereas all the other models do not. If you include spark plugs they are pretty much all more expensive. Northways have a very good reputation and have been looking after 944's for years.

Please feel free to list the OPC'S that charge less than £306 for a major service and have the technicians trained to work on 30 year old cars. I am sure your fellow members would appreciate it.

Gt one in chertsey everytime, I have used them for 9 years. Craig and pete run the business and used to work on our cars back in the day, whereas Ken still does. Although ken only does 3 days a week. I've no affiliation but just got my car back from there after having its belts and major service done.

The poster that introduced Northway onto the thread was talking about a minor service, no need to get defensive. I'd also expect a skilled Tech to be able to read a workshop manual. Whether they'd earn any bonus working on a 944 is a different matter.

^^^^^Plugs cost around £16 and take 10 minutes to change WTF ?^^^^^
Hello Paul hope you are well.

Every 12K or 2 years I believe, mines had a lot more oil changes than plug swaps.
