Infant seats - Back and Front Seat

Hi,

I'm thinking of trading in my 911/997 for 968 (just too many silver 997's on the road !) but I need to square away two things. Has anyone found infant seats (2.5 year old boy) that fit in the back ? (I saw a thread that suggested no but received an email from Peter Morgan suggesting yes). Alternatively, if I put an infant seat in the front, is there an airbag that needs de-activating and can one make it switchable ?

Any parent / family 968 advice welcome, I think I've got the performance issues covered !

I use an infant seat in my 944. Although it is supposed to be able to fit in the rear seats (according to the Brittax website) there are two main problems which make it not really suitable - at least to my satisfaction. The first is that there really is not enough legroom for the little-un. I'm a bit of a short-@r$e and have my seat fairly forward and when i've got the seat in the back behind me I need to tilt the seat forward so it feels like i'm being tipped out of it, put the seat back bolt upright and have the seat slid a couple or so notches further forward than normal, and after all this the little'un has just enough room for her feet right up against the seat back.

The second problem is that because the back seats don't have much cushioning at all (they are hard) then it is difficult to get enough tension in the seatbelt to securely fix the seat.

In the front passenger seat it is much better and you can get the seat securly fitted.

Regarding airbags - it's not an issue for me but if there isn't the facitlity to deactivage them you can get them permenantly deactivated at a specialist (of course this process is reversible).

The seat i've got is a Brittax. It's a discontinued model but you can get them unused and still boxed off ebay.

Thanks Scott, I thought that might be the case. Similar problem in the 997/911 regarding just how much you can squash a small child in the back. I'm beginning to think that its either the front seat or wait till they're older and don't need the big bulky infant seat. (Both the wife and I are over 6 foot tall so long-ar$e stuff to contend with here).

A bit short sighted of Porsche really, they make the back seats suitably sized for children but don't put a lot of cushioning in and make the seat belt shoulder anchor too high for children.
They could have made them dedicated and safe child seats, but then in the early 90s. the legislation isn't as it is today.

And with the introduction of the booster seats to take the child almost into puberty and too tall to use the rear seats at all the rear seats are basically rendered totally useless. All the more reason to remove them 968CS style.

No to the car seat yes to the 968 ! Got myself a late 94 Sport that needs a bit of tidying up but lowish (68k) miles so basically sound. I'll know the truth in about £3,500 time ! On the infant seat I ultimately decided that until the Panarmera makes a debut there really isn't a sensible sports Porsche for tall people with kids. Best make do and squeeze a bit.

Thanks for asking.

Henry
