Thanks for the heads-up Alan.
Yep, that was my car. It was fairly well-known in the TIPEC club, and in PCGB up here in Scotland. And yep "" I really do miss it! It's not to everybody's taste, which is why it ended up selling so cheaply. I hadn't ever intended to sell, so was happily modifying it to suit exactly what I wanted "" not worrying about resale values.
I'm happy to answer any questions I can. I bought it in 2007 from a mechanic and garage owner down in East Yorkshire. He looked after it impeccably and was selling because he'd moved on to a Lotus Esprit V8. He did the initial mods, fitting a short shift kit at the gearbox end and the adjustable wastegate for the turbo. Over time, I added bits and pieces whilst tidying up anything that went wrong with the car in daily use. The fibreglass wings came from a Polish specialist and were professionally fitted "" they were mostly a solution to the perennial rust trap problem at the bottom edge of Turbo/S2 style front wings. The tinted windows help (a lot) with how hot a 944 gets in the sun when kept outdoors. When the exhaust began to rust I had the whole thing replaced with a custom stainless steel setup (you should notice a deeper, throatier sound than standard, but not offensively so!) I fitted one of the rare FlamingEye kits to illuminate the dashboard, and a very expensive hi-fi system, with an iPod wired in where the old '80s cassette holders used to sit. The car has polybushes up front and uprated anti-roll bars. It really was no expense spared. It's fast, too. I showed all sorts of 911s a clean pair of heels on track days, and was never ever short of power when out on country runs with the Pistonheads crowd.
I had some big life changes though and I literally could not afford to keep it. When it took a long time to sell, I eventually reached the point where tax and insurance were both due and I physically could not afford to pay them "" and without a garage to store the car in, I couldn't SORN it either. So I had to take any offer at all and ended up selling the car to a friend down south for only £2,300. I reckon that to the right buyer (had I been able to afford to wait) it could have been a £10k car. That's what I had it insured for! The buyer (a car collector) sent one of his mates to collect the car from me "" a Ferrari 355 owner. He texted me from the motorway services a couple of hours later saying "This car is amazing. I'm struggling to see what the extra £40k I paid for my Ferrari got me over this!" My pal literally bought it just as a favour to me. He sold it on to a dealer straight away.
