Info please on suspension

After Mas's thread about suspension it got me thinking about doing mine, i looked through my history and in its time it has only ever had the odd bush replaced.

I got offered some KYB replacement shocks cheap. They are all just the damper inserts i believe. I think they were bought for a 2.5 lux of the same year as mine, 87.

What do i have my S, is it the same set up of the luxs of the same era, also looking on kyb sites they talk about inserts and sealed units, i take it sealed units have the cup for the spring too. Would my front struts need to be cut to fit the inserts? or do some of the 944s dampers slot in and out easy?

Sorry im a bit clueless on this, if the struts need to be cut how hard is it/can it go wrong/and is a hack saw good enough?

Thanks again all

Mark

This is the info i was given, what does it actually mean though?

I understand that it is fiddly, but not necessarily too hard to change the inserts on a 944.

If you do not mind me asking, are they new and how much are they going for?

Price sounds ok for a pair.
Easy to change if similar (I know they are different but believe they are similar to) the earlier cars.
Undo calipers and suspend, disconnect brake lins from strut, undo lower strut / hub bolts - note upper one is excentric, so note angle, from inside bonnet remove the 4 strut nuts (have someone hold the strut as it comes off).
With the strut off, use spring compressors to take the tension, then remove the nut on the top of the damper, then the spring.
Unscrew the cap on the top of the unit carefully, if its original its full of oil, clean the tube out, insret the new damper unit and screw the new cap on.
Reassemble in reverse order.
Of course its probably totally different!
