Informal London Get-Together, 25th July

Chaps,

In discussion with Jon (new owner of Jason's excellent S2), we have cooked up a plan to have an informal London meet on the 25th July - it's a Friday. It'll be in the evening, and likely to be more East-of-centre than West-of-centre.

Further than that, all options are open. That includes venue, whether we make it supper as well or just drinks (I'd vote to include supper), whether we find somewhere that can host cars as well (i.e. a pub with a car park, in which case we'd be looking slightly further out) or just for people, etc etc etc.

If everyone wants a cheap evening I'd happily suggest beers and a take away at my place (5 mins from Mile End tube, with space to park), or dinner at The Ivy at the other end of the scale, or anything in between.

If people can give me some idea of what people would like to do then I'll see what's available.

Oli.

Excellent, thanks Oli

Am a definite yes, and will be bringing along my neighbour, Sam, who has a love of cars, although currently is burdened by a BMW estate.

I'm very easy about the venue and format etc, although a couple of beers and a bit of food is always good. Sam is a very good mate of the landlord of the Blind Beggar in Whitechapel - who always looks after us a little too well, but very much open to all suggestions...

Looking forward to meeting everyone,

Jon

ps the S2 is currently having a bit of a spruce with Bob at RGA - cam chain replacement and small service - but in the short time I've owned her can tell she is a keeper!

Hi Oli

yes, I'm available and i think that's a fine idea...

pretty easy abut what to do. A beer and a bite to eat sounds great.

cheers
Ian

I would love to come along but unfortunately the 25th of July is the first day of the Silverstone Classic so I (and my Porsche) will be at Silverstone.

Friday night?

I'm actually up for it, but it would be a difficult trip after work.

It'd be great to do something like this outside of the silly-season. We have at least half a dozen local events every weekend at the moment, but bugger-all from October to April. [&:]

Right, well that sounds like four; Jon, Jon's friend Sam and _Ian.

Beer and a bite to eat. Excellent plan. I'll confess that I've never been to the Blind Beggar (despite having lived in the East End for 20 years) and would very happily go there. The only downside I can see of that plan is that there would be no opportunity to admire some tin, but pubs where you can do that are few and far between. And the downside of admiring tin is that you can't drink while doing so, so maybe it's a blessing.

Shall we say Blind Beggar at ... dunno, 7.30pm? (Do they do food?) Let me know if there are any glaring holes in this plan, otherwise I'll make it official.

And if anyone else wants to join us then do pipe up. Is it worth posting this on TIPEC?

McNulters, I'll happily buy you a good few beers any time you like (I feel I owe you them). If you can join us then that would be splendid. If not then some other time, for sure.

Oli.

Sounds good - not sure if the Beggar does food though, but if we can stoop to Nando's or their like, we'll be ok...

Very happy for it to be posted on Tipec, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for organising!

Don't whinge about there being no social dates in the calendar Paul.....!! I was trying my nutz off to get a Southern region Xmas
Curry night (Saturday afternoon) going in early December but, if I remember correctly, YOU was the stumbling block and, went
against everything I suggested [8|]. The London Region stuff their faces at "Tayabs" so, why not the 944 register [8|]?
Come to think of it, I got fcuk all support form anyone else either. My forum "buddies" must be a bunch of tee totalers [8|][;)]

The informal meet sounds like a great idea and I am happy to play along with your suggestions Oli. After all, local knowledge is always handy ;).

Pete, I reckon October/November will yield great results for a curry down South. My biggest problem at Xmas is having some free time, seeing as there is tons of stuff going on locally with work and friends etc. The work part takes up quite a bit of time. I am sure I am not alone here. Maybe it is not in the Spirit of things but early December could work also :).

Just back from Le Mans classic (had a lovely time, thanks for asking)and seen the updates on this thread.

Let's stick with The Blind Beggar, partially because I don't want to muddy the water by changing it, partially because I am curious to see the place. What time? 7.30pm? I've called and they do food up until 10.00pm.

Pete (Ex-Skyline) - organising things is always a faff and I remember your brave efforts to get a 944 group together over Christmas. Care to join us on the 25th at The Blind Beggar? I've always been curious to meet you - do let us know if you'll be there.

Chas, 'twould be great if you were there. I'll count you in.

Oh, go on then, If I must [8|]. I will most likely be on the train though, so I can partake in one of my favourite hobbies.....getting
pi55ed [:D]! Depending on what state I get in, I may also be looking for a nice hotel to spend the night [;)]. Been thinking, I may
have a BBQ at my place sometime over the Summer (Brighton), if anyone is up for it [8D]. I'm getting a "Kamado Joe" and, I am
getting quite excited to try it out [8D]. Any takers can doss at my gaff, we have plenty of room. So, can you send me the boozer's
full address please Oli and, a meet up time [:)].

It's here:

Easy to find - I expect the nearest tube is Whitechapel, but you could walk it from The City easily. I'll be there from 7.30pm and it's a pub, so plenty of opportunity to get Brahms and Liszt.

If you want a hotel there are several locally, although I suspect you'll need to book fairly soon in order to be sure of getting a place.

BBQ? Yes, send more details!

Oli.

I can offer a lift from the station if you wish Pete, if you don't fancy the walk, it's raining etc. :).

Oli, nice one mate, looking forward to it [8D]. Chas', text me your phone number re kind offer of a lift from the station
(Whitechapel)? Reckon I may just possibly stay over and get a train home on Saturday morning [8D][;)]. So, Mr Simkin,
If you fancy a late night bevy mate.....? [:D] ? I will let you all know details of my intended BBQ shenanigans just as soon as I
take delivery of my "Kamado Joe" [8D][:D].

You won't need a lift from Whitechapel; it'll be quicker to walk!

I've PM'ed you my mobile number should you need to contact me - I'm sure Chas will do the same.

Good Q about McNulters, he hasn't actually said a definitive 'No' yet. Will you be there Paul?

Oli.

Numbers received Oli and Chas [:)]. I have pm'd you both mine too (although it's been posted on here about a thousand times [8|]).
