I have jut been to the OPC for a new top hose, the one that joins the cross feed pipe to the thermostat housing, and have been informed that it is no longer available. However.........

The bottom hose is still available.

That's funny - I've just enquired about this hose myself (& I know the answer in advance now). Mine has been chafed by the fuel lines' support bar because the PO had the hose at the other end of the cross feed pipe replaced "poorly" (it wasn't pushed far enough onto the cross-pipe, so its now pushing the top 'elbow' hose over a bit).

John - do you mean you can buy/cut down the 'other' rad top hose (from rad to cross-pipe) to replace the thermostat elbow hose? Or did you mean the rad bottom hose?

What I recommend is replacing the old bottom rad hose with a new one, and cutting a section out of the old hose to repair the top. Experience has shown that this hose mostly perishes at the water pump inlet due to oil residue from the cam seal running down the head or around the jubilee clips. The 90 degree bend still has a lot of life in it. I did a temporary repair a month ago and found out yesterday when I went to collect my order of parts. Enquiring about the absence of the top hose I was told about it's availability. Unbelieveably the two heater hoses are still available.
