Information sought on 928 GTS

My name is Peter Roberts and am a club member in the South Wales Region.

I recently purchased a beautiful 928 GTS, K585GFS but unfortunately have no service history.

I have tried all the Porsche dealers with limited success and have just sent the vehicle details to David Hemmings (928 Register secretary) who will try to include this in the 928 section of Porsche Post.

It appears that this car spent much of its life in Glasgow and Edinburgh (owned by a Mr Douglas Cameron & a Mr Graeme Sloan) until being purchased by someone in North Wales 6 years ago who never put it on the road.

As it is such a distinctive car it occurred to me that some Club members from Region One may know the history of the car or perhaps know the previous owner.

If you are able to help in any way, please could you contact me on peasoup39@hotmail.com

Thanks

Douglas Cameron owns the VW Dealership on the Dunkeld Road in Perth and has owned many Porches over the year sure if you gave them a call they could put you in touch if you have no joy with them drop me a note I know one of his neighbours

cheers

If it is in fact the same DC he was the official Porsche main dealer in the north of Scotland along with Glen Henderson who traded in Glasgow .I have been around the PCGB scene since 1992 but the other owners name rings no bells .

Thanks guys i will give Mr Cameron a call on Monday.
The second owner registered the car address as C/O Bentley Edinburgh. They did not have any record but did put me in touch with Porsche Edinburgh who tried to help but they had no information either. Porsche Glasgow had some records of services but could not supply any documents due to data protection.

This data protection is rubbish its the cars history not the owners details you are after easy enough to delete the owners address and photo copy what has been done .Send me details you have and I will try Glasgow for you no guarantee mind you . Not sure if DG is still involved in the business but could call Cameron's of Perth head office to ask the question

It was definitely his car I dropped a text to one of my friends who worked their when it was a Porsche dealership and remembered the car when DC had it quoted me linen leather and blue piping which I see by your pictures on 911uk was right wouldn't be surprised if he was the first owner.

Yes he was the first owner. I had all the build details and details that he was the original buyer from Porsche Reading. If he had the dealership its likely that all the servicing was done at his place and that explains why Porsche Glasgow did not start servicing it until 1997.
Will be calling him Monday

Spoke to Douglas Cameron today who was extremely helpful but has no information on the car as it was a long time ago and he closed the dealership so no records remain. He has given me the name of someone to contact at Porsche Edinburgh which will do in the next few days.
My best bet is to contact the second owner who had it up to 6 years ago when it was registered to c/o Bentley Edinburgh.
So does anyone know the whereabouts of Mr Graeme Stewart McKensie Sloan or how he can be contacted. I am sure with such a distinctive name there cannot be be many in the phone book!!!!

You will get plenty of hits on Graeme Stewart McKensie Sloan on Google he has had a few directorships but I suspect being born in 1941 he will be retired now

Just an update on the outcome of my quest. It transpires that Mr Sloan passed away about 2 years ago. His son recently joined the Porsche Club and on the first copy of Porsche post sent to him he opened it to see the picture and article of his fathers old car. What a coincidence that was! He has been in contact via a long e mail detailing all he could about his recollections of the car. His description of how fastidious his father was explains the fantastic condition of the car and the fact it was regularly serviced by Porsche dealers. Unfortunately he does not have any history so i have little hope of getting any further documentation.
I also contacted Region 1 and have had contact from local members, including Brian Wood, with advice on what else to try. I even had a call from Douglas Cameron the dealer who sold it to him in the first place.
The only down side is that Porsche Glasgow will not release the few records they have, Porsche Edinburgh were no help and Bentley Edinburgh did not even reply to requests for information.
They say you can chose your friends but not your family. When it comes to the owners in the Porsche family they responded more like friends. I have had enormous help and cannot thank those who responded enough.
Long live the Porsche Club and the Porsche family

I've enjoyed reading this.....
Couldn't Porsche GB in Reading help with providing copies of any service records for you?
Contact Chris Seaward GM PCGB to see if he can offer any advice ....
Every option is worth exploring.
Good luck
Paul

Its good that you now have a lot of the background on the car and seems ridiculous the Porsche cant release some of the paperwork minus any personal details maybe ?

Take it out for a blast that will take your mind off the paperwork !

cheers

Gary

Porsche Reading did respond and sent me the complete original build spec including the fact that the owner specified a special Mercedes Blue as he did not like any of the Porsche colours. However they did state they had no service records which is why i contacted every Porsche dealer individually. The owners son is using his personal contact with the local dealer to see if they will release some records to him which he will pass on so there is a chance i may get something.
Taking it out for a blast takes my mind off everything as it such an awesome machine. Its gives a better buzz than any medication could come close to.
