Injector loom

My car has been sitting for 3-4 weeks with the battery disconnected, something I dont normally do. Now it wont start. Its got a spark, and fuel and the engine turns over but wont fire. The garage is looking at the injector looms.. Any experience of this problem? Presumably its not the immobiliser or alarm as the engine wouldn't turn over if the were in the inhibit mode

Sounds odd Eddie. I can add is that my car turns over with the immobiliser on, it just doesn't fire. I haven't ever checked but assume it is either cutting fuel or spark. However you seem to be getting both of these. Mine is a Serpi Star single button fob alarm/immobiliser, not a Hamilton Palmer insert key fob one.

Reference sensor maybe? Is you tacho bouncing when you turn it over?

AFM or AFM wiring could also cause a non-start with fuel and spark present. If you are running a standard turbo AFM the loom bends back on itself before plugging into the AFM, this bent bit of loom has been known to cause issues.

A split boost hose could also cause a non-start.

Hi Eddie, you say it turns over and gets spark and fuel? how have you tested for fuel? You can jumper the DME relay to make sure the fuel pump is working.

The only other thing I can think of is the speed and reference sensors. Have they ever been replaced? The cables can get really brittle and break.

Does the tach needle bounce when cranking?

Finally got the car started after quite few hours investigation into AFM , looms injectors etc. When I have the car its either being used or its on the Ctek charger so the battery is always well up. It coughed a few times and they left it on charge over night. There was a trace leakage around the Dizzy cap and then it fired up. Best guess, that although it was turning over ok, the spark wasn't strong enough to fire it up. Started ok this am.
Going to change the Cap and leads as a precaution. Garage NOT going to charge me for the hour of investigation. Full marks to Tom at AA

Maybe worth looking at the starter loom and battery earth leads and getting them replaced? The starter loom does see a lot of heat.
