Injectors on 'chipped' turbos

Anyone running higher flow injectors with upgraded turbo cars?

Mine has a Lindsey racing kit on it but using the standard Bosch injectors with a 3bar fuel pressure regulator. I have been advised to fit a Air/Fuel mixture gauge to keep an eye on the mixture levels - anyone got one and from where?

Errrm, {embarassed mode on}, will now use search facility as i should have done before asking such an evidently frequently asked question again {embarassed mode off}....

Nick - you'd need a new chip to accompany larger injectors. Checking AFR is good advice though -maybe get it checked on a RR first?

I think Paul (Diver 944) is running a Wideband Commander system - http://www.widebandcommander.com/

I'm running 72lb injectors with my Vitesse MAF - I'm sure they aren't necessary at my current power levels, but John @ Vitesse won't support MAF with standard injectors, and the 72Lbs models were only marginally more expensive that the 55lbs.

The chips will be for the specific config you have - with standard injectors - you'd need them re-flashed / swapped in order to use 55lb injectors

I'd be suprised if LR would sell a kit that didn't work - I'd check with them (or Russell @ 951 Max first).
The kit will have a max.boost specified - you run the risk of running lean if you wind the boost up.

There's no mention of the need for bigger injectors here
http://www.lindseyracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=LR&Category_Code=951PACK300

but they include them in their next kit up (340 rwhp)

Bear in mind you have a risk if your injectors aren't A1 condition - a quick trip to a rolling road will get you started & give you some peace of mind (or make you more worried!)

To confirm for definite you ought to speak to either Dave Lindsey or even better to Russel Berry from MAXhp who supply the Lindsey chips.

If the kit makes no mention of injectors then it ought to be able to run correctly using the standard 34.5lb set up to a certain level of boost. I know the Promax chips had two different settings controlled by a dip switch, one for 34.5 and one for 55lb

For peace of mind it's good to get the AFR tested on a rolling road - we will once again be organising a 944 Dyno Day at Weltmeister Silverstone in the spring/ early summer if you can wait until then.

Some chips have multi-maps on them to accommodate different sized injectors. The Promax level 2 chips I have can accommodate 55lb and 65lb injectors. To switch between the different injector maps you use the FQS switch. You can read all about it on Promax's web site.

As a rough rule of thumb if you are running 1 bar boost (15psi) you should be using at least a 3 bar FPR and ideally running larger injectors. Even with a 3 bar FPR your injectors will be running quite hard and given that they are probably getting of for 20yrs old and have probably never seen any maintenance activity in their whole lives then you are not leaving much margin for error. I'm just waiting for Vitesses new year sale and i'll be getting myself some larger injectors. I'd rather have too much capacity rather than running my injectors close to their maximum capacity.

I've been trying to buy the MAXhp setup from Russell, but he stopped replying to emails a few weeks ago. So now I need to find another affordable solution to get mine up and running, I'll probably have a look at the Vitesse setup instead.

Nick, as an aside I have a VDO Boost guage as part of a L2 kit with the DPW. It was recommended by Promax as a good safety feature to set accurate boost and I would agree.
Others with more tuned engines will have a view on this point. One thing is for sure, you can ignore the Factory fitted guage as I imagine you know.

Bummer [] He seemed to have a good reputation too. What is it with these US chip tuners that blaze brightly for a while and then fade from sight? A lot of us still remember Dannos disappearance and his Guru Racing chips. At least Vitesse has been round for a while and John has a very good reputation, he has helped me no end [:)]

+1 for John @ Vitesse - his support is excellent

Maybe Russell has been away for Christmas?

Thanks for the replies, guys

I was thinking initially about getting the existing injectors cleaned tested, just for peace of mind.

I think an afr check on some rollers will be on the list too!

+1 for John at Vitesse.
EDH which 72lb injectors are you running? I have the Siemens ones and have been running without ballasts as Dave lindsey says is possible. Just wondering if you have gone the same route?

good question Tommo - I have no idea though -I didn't look at them very closely.

I got them from Vitesse with my MAF & they came in a small plastic bag (I guess he buys in bulk). I wired in the 2 resistors that John sent me & everything seems OK

One thing I did notice was they didn't have any caps on the tips like the stock ones have
