Injectors

I put a late model DME and AFM on my 84 lux a while back. Ive had good results from it and my wideband said that the AFR's were good. Ive bought a 9xx chip for the DME and I was thinking that I would get a set of later injectors to go with it. Will the drop straight onto an early model fuel rail? I can't think why they wont.

Ive always thought so, but its been too long to be sure now. For peace of mind Id look at the fuel rail for series one and series two cars on PET and see whether theyre the same part (number).

Im pretty sure they are the same, injector fitting end as I was told this by 2 well known breakers, but there are at least 3 different fuel line / regulator positions! Mike

I dont tjink the differing positions of the damper / regulator affects anything but the fuel lines. I ve tried 3 different rails, 83 89 (off a 2.7)and 1 of indeterminate origin, all fitted the injectors, only the original fitted the lines. Mike

i was thinking of doing this does it make a big difference. I have been told just changing the dme and afm to an 86 version without changing the chip chip would make a noticeable difference but was not sure so have not done it as yet sy

The early DME and AFM was running quite a bit richer than the late DME. As a result it was a little worse on fuel but had better performance at the bottom end. I'll report back on how the new chip works out.

FrWilks page gives the fuel pressure on the early cars as 3 Bar and on the late cars 2.5 Bar. [link=http://www.the944.com/injector.htm]http://www.the944.com/injector.htm[/link] I'm not sure if this is for test purposes or if it is giving the pressure of the fuel rail on the car.
