Hi

Happy Easter, people I was wondering if the inspection plug needs a breathing hole in it? I have put a ribber bung in as I am sure I have read that it should have one but am unsure if it is correct?

I have attached a pic of what I have done.

I am also going to put in a new header tank.
Replace the from windscreen jets and a non return valve, if you have any tips please let me know.

Have a good Easter.

Russ

I think there were several thoughts on this over the years, but I seem to remember a technical bulletin saying you can leave the bung out in the end. Mine's not had one for over 15 years now and no issues so far...

Found one on Pelican Parts (US site), doesn't look to have a hole... You could probably still get one from Porsche, but the one you have looks fine to me.

... Clearly, like many of us, I have too much time on my hands....!
By the way, where did you get your new header tank? Good price?

Hi Steve

Thanks for your reply, I will keep the one that I have put in, I looked at pelican parts but they seem to be based in the USA so thought the deliver time would be too long so ended up getting bits from The Porsche Shop, where do you generally get your parts from?

Cheers again for taking the time to reply.

Russ

Both our 924S's have official Porsche "stoppers" (I think they are called) in the inspection hole (allows you to check the timing mark)-neither has a hole in it & why should it -the bung is to stop any damp forming ,entry of detritus, etc

I generally get my parts from Porsche dealer parts dept

normally cheaper than most other places, no vat and shipping costs added on

Talking of Porsche parts, does anyone know when they may reopen? I realise that we are all affected by the lockdown and wondered how long Porsche dealers can maintain customer's cars (car repair is counted as 'essential') without being able to get spares?

the bung 944 105 131 00 is available from Porsche Parts Dept £3.38 inc vat

from Design911 £4.29 +vat + shipping = £11.09
