Instrument binnacle - what’s this?

Hello, presently trying to find what’s draining my battery (something in the interior lighting circuit is pulling 0.9a when switched off) and have pulled the instruments out as I lost backlighting. bulbs are all ok so must be linked to some other electrical excitement that’s going on.

anyway - I found this connector tucked away? Answers on a postcard please?

I‘m a bit crap with wiring diagrams, we have a brown/white, a yellow, a blue and a grey. Wondered if part of cruise control wiring? Can’t see where it has ever been connected.

I have found a few diagrams on line, I`ll dig into them ... I`m well used to VAG diagrams for my older Audis and Golfs, where brown / white and yellow are lighting related. As for the blue and grey ... ?

Quite normal to have a few unused plugs given options available but not taken

Can you identify what section of the main loom it originates from ?

It appears to come in behind the instrument panel from the main loom.

Its been doing slightly odd things electrically for a bit and I am now losing the whole battery in a week so trying to isolate it.

when driving sometimes if I flash the headlights it cuts the radio and ignition briefly and I steadily lost all the dash backlighting- all bulbs tested ok so am suspecting the instrumentation is at fault - odo was jammed so could be something there.

... Hopefully that`ll fix it, am part way through a 263 page wiring manual looking for your odd plug :p

Prior to your last post I would have suggested an earthing issue, often ... there are common earth points " on many older cars " that are relative to multiple systems / functions

Just a quick one - the door switches can cause all sorts of weird electrical issues when they start to corrode. They aren't mega expensive and actually a standard VW part, once fitted to many VWs of the 80s, 90s.
