Instrument Cluster failure again !

You will recall from my previous post that my instrument cluster had failed. Changing the fuses and disconnecting the battery unfortunately didnt rectify the problem so ended up stumping up the cash for a new one.

One week of happy driving and exactly the same thing has happend. All dials frozen and all lights on inside the cluster. ARGHHHHHH !!!!!! This leads me to believe its not the cluster and some other electrical fault that must be shorting the cluster.

My Porsche specialist is stumped and is now consulting Porsche's technical department directly.

Anybody ever had this happen?

No, but I've got about 15 clusters (both new and used) so if you don't fancy shelling out another £700+ for one from the OPC let me know and I'll see if I've got one suitable for your car.

tripe - I have to ask - what's a classic impact bumper man doing with 15 996 instrument clusters? [8|] [8|]

Dean - has your indy checked the connectors on the new cluster? It might simply be that one of the plugs wasn't quite engaged properly when they put it back. It's easily done. Other than that, I haven't a clue. If it was just one instrument it might be easier to track down, but not all of them - hopefully the factory will have some idea. Good luck.

Years of accumulation Richard! When I buy a job lot to get my hands on the IB spares I invariably end up with later stuff as well. Just had a little look at them, not all are 996 clusters - some jolly Boxster ones as well.
