Instrument Cluster LEDs & Accelerator pedal disconnection

Apologies if these subjects have been covered before.
First: Just wasted an entire afternoon trying (and failing) to disconnect the accelerator pedal to facilitate carpet removal. There's a circlip at the top of the pedal which is impossible to reach as well as two bolts (apparently) at the bottom. Which is the easiest to tackle and how was that achieved?
Second: LED upgrade to the instrument cluster. There are two sizes of existing bulb to replace. Does anyone have any recommendations? 'Flaming Eye' don't exist any more. 3.78W seems to be one suggestion for the replacement of the three larger bulbs. But where can I find the right size? And what are using for the smaller bulb replacements?

I've also got poor lighting in the cluster. is it ageing bulbs, ageing contacts or is the dimmer switch rheostat at fault? or all 3 ?

Cluster is usually failing reflectors brighter leds might help or a kit that replaces reflectors with led strips. Dimming usually doesn't work with led bulbs though.

Never looked to remove the throttle pedal, sorry!

I quite like the dim look at night, it's almost like it isn't lit up, just enough to see the gauges. Last night I realised that they are still really effective when the left hand larger bulb decided to go out plunging my temp and fuel gauge into total darkness! It turned out not to be the bulb, just the connectors on the circuit board needing a wee clean up with very light emery and some contact cleaner. I wonder if it will be any brighter tonight when I go out for a case of beer? :ROFLMAO: I will report back!

Edit to add, a little brighter with the connectors cleaned up.

Been out and about in the dark a bit of late, and since I cleaned up the 3 x main bulb connectors, and also recently cleaned up the 3 x harnesses and connectors on my binnacle (mainly a good dose of de-oxit contact cleaner and some very light emery on the bulb connectors), I can say the dash lighting is noticeably brighter, and more than acceptable. This is with 34 year old bulbs and prisms. The prisms themselves are not the worst, but not a patch on some of the modded, or refurb/upgraded ones I've seen. Obviously this is with the dimmer up full, they go out almost completely however with the dimmer fully dimmed! I would have to go back in time to see the full factory look, but I don't imagine I am a million miles away.

I know it's a bit off topic (apologies), but just in case anyone was after a bit more brightness without going down the mod/upgrade route, it is possible. (Eddie)
