Yeah, removing the binacal is a breeze. First off remove the steering wheel, just pull the horm push off then remove the 3 screws that hold the complete horn switch onto the wheel hub NOT the 3 screws that hold the horn switch together, they're the smaller ones, the whole switch pulls out of the wheel hub intact with it's springs keeping the 2 halves of the ring plates together - it needs a bit of even pulling to get it out, then remove the spade terminal wire from the switch.
Remove the centre nut from the steering wheel (normal counter clock) and the washer. BEFORE removing the wheel, mark the steering shaft and wheel hub with a fine indelible marker pen or scratch across the two, so you know where to put it back on to the spline, then remove the wheel.
8 screws hold the binacle into the dash - 3 inside the binacle, facing vertically upwards - 2 underneath (that's 1 each side of the steering column, vertically upwards) - Now look inside the air vents in the middle of the dash there's 2 inside the left hand grill and 1 in the far right grill, a magnetic screwdriver is useful here.
Ease the top curve of dash away from the instrument binacle whilst at the same time pulling the binacle down and away from the top curve of the dash, it'll come away quite easily. Once it's about half to an inch away on the left side, then grab hold of the far right vent grill, this is a dummy one and wont fall apart, gently jiggle it up and down and pull it away at the same time, the left side likes to come away first and it needs to be tilted downwards slightly from the top to remove it from the ventilation end, the whole unit will move forward and out. There's no ventilation rods or wires to worry about.
Now you have to release the 3 flat cable connectors from the back of the binacle, there's room to pull the binacle away and to the right of the steering colum to see behind it. I can't remember which way the clips work, but it'll be obvious when you see them. On either side of the edge connectors there's a handle and these pull the connector in the last bit and lock it onto the binacle - if they're tight against the cable then push them both away from the cable at the same time and the connector will move off the clamp and visa versa if they're away from the cable then push them towards the cable, funny how i never took any notice of this but they are just standard cable connector clamps i and knew how they worked.
That's it the whole binacle can now be pulled out of the car. Before refitting the binacle just check that the scew plates that attatch around the edge of the metal work in are still in place and haven't fallen off and that they are in position and over the holes ready to accept the binacle screws, oh lastly don't forget to re-connect the spade terminal to the horn push before you push it back into the wheel hub.
good luck.
