i have a 1989 s2 and i've had a few problems with speedo and rev counter working intermittently, there is an intsrument cluster on ebay at the moment but it has an mpg guage and mine doesn't. does anyone know if it will fit my car and if so would the mpg guage work?

The MPG gauge was a feature on 1986 model year cars only: I would advise you to wait for another cluster to become available. In fact, for something like this Id call Presige in Leeds or PHSportscars in Shardlow (or Buttercup if you want to pay extra), rather than trusting to eBay luck.

Hi Richard, if you haven't already I recommend you check the wiring and earths before splashing out on a replacement. I've had similar issues in the past and it's almost always wiring related (except for the sticky speedo which is a bit of a feature on these cars [:D]).

i'll check the wiring in the morning, didn't realise sticking speedo was common, my '87 lux always stayed at 0 until i hit 20 mph but it's worked fine for months now!

Yes, many seem to stick below 20-30mph, often worse on hot days or if the car has been sat for a while. I wonder if a little lubrication would help, but it's never bothered me enough to find out.

A 1987 model year would not have had it. It was definately a deature on the 1986 model year cars only. Perhaps your car was a late registration: Im guessing that it had early offset wheels?

quick update, just pulled clocks out and wiring plug wasn't pushed in all the way! problem solved. cheers peter.

Must have been a late registration then. Fair enough!
