Helen Goff

No.1 Poster
my insurance is due for renewal.
I have a 2000 2.7 Boxster.

my car now has full GT3 bodykit (modified-though porsche approved) and i would quite like to start doing track day' s.

any suggestions?

Helen

A starting point will be the back of the Post and going through the advertised brokers[8|].

Last year I was with Nowell & Richards[:)] who also provided trackday cover (at a price)[&:].

It' s very much a post-code lottery so what' s good for one person isn' t readily great for someone else.[>:]

Have fun![:D]

Helen,

Don' t know how good they are for mods and track days, but I found Churchill to be the most competitive when I looked round for insurance in June.

Don' t know about track days with Churchill. Would be interested to know if an OPC bodykit would make a difference, depends on how they view the cost of repair. Thought modification referred more to sticking in a Gembella plant .....

The point. I had a windscreen replaced and it was a battle of sorts to ensure that the screen was from an OPC. As Churchill use Autoglass you will know they aren' t brill, but if you go elsewhere Churchill chip in a 100 squid or so .... a point to watch. I seem to recall and OPC will charge around 450 rather fullsome squid for the screen, who fits it I do not know.

Also, they like to use their own bodyshop and on this basis they will provide a hire car in the venet of an accident (ugh). But if it is an OPC you want then you will need to hire a car and claim the amount back from the other party.

Having said all that, Churchill came out with the best quote and were fairly easy to talk to on the troublesome points.

Dunno if that helps.

I was shocked with churchill, then completely amazed at them 2 months later. My insurance was with Direct line and it needed to be renued in mid July. Started looking around in early May so I had time to find the best deal. esure came out the cheapest but in the policy most of the fields were N/A which worried me a little. Churchill were second with (in my mind at the time), a stageringly low 830. I said post me the details and when it comes to renewal time, you' ll get my business. They couldn' t finalise the figures as it was over 30 days before the renewal date. 1 week before renewal, contacted churchill again and they double checked the figures. A whisker over £1500. A very audible exclamation came out, and not to dissimilar to clucking bell!

They could give me no reason why the price had nearly doubled in 6 weeks. Needless to say that I did not take them up on this once in a lifetime offer and as it happens, stayed with Direct Line. I' m covered for everything including up to 15k a year, business use, assured hire car, etc, etc, etc.

The world of insurance is a weird and very baffling place.

I imagine a roomfull of hippies in a drug induced haze, you give them your details and they feed it all into their cosmic computer and come up with a random number - that' s the price they quote [;)]

You' ll be amazed at differences in prices, if say you ask for your policy to start on a Monday for instance and then compare with the same starting on another day of the week!!!! [:-]

I' m with Liverpool Victoria BTW - it was cheaper for me to insure my car comprehensive WITH my girlfriend as a named driver!

I always found Norwich Union direct, the best for price/service. Although tesco' s & directline were slightly cheaper they wouldn' t guarantee that any repairs would be by an OPC, be sure to check that aspect as it will clearly affect the cars value, if you do have a prang !!.

im with Tesco' s at the moment and your find that most of the Porsche repair shops are registered with both tesco' s and direct line. just specify at the time of the accident that you wish the car to go to a porsche specialist and No problem.

anyway i shall have a ring round before i make my mind up.

Just for the record, you have the right to specify where your car is repaired. Insurance companies cannot make you use their " approved" repairers (even though they often try[8|] )
