Insurance again.....

Insurance companies seem to be having a laugh at me, I have a clean licence and no accidents. Car is a turbo parked on the road, 6000 miles in Sheffield, but whoever I try is just way over the top. The old turbo was only £275 a year, I can't get it now under £1500!! Can you guys recommend anyone good?

Direct line were cheapest for me, parked on street, 8000 miles, only car. It's an S2 though. 26 with 4 years NCB, 3 points and no accidents was £400

If its unmodded then giving Lancasters a bell might be a good start. If it is tweaked I would suggest A-Plan (Thatcham Branch). In fact A-Plan might be worth contacting even if the car is standard.

I was quoted happy by Aviva for 8000 miles a year for £280 with protected NCB

Swinton Classic was good last year at £201 for 5k, but they won't do a main car this year

You could always try being posh! I've got 12,000 miles, 5+ years NCB, parked on the road in Sheffield. For me Privilege charge the princely fee of £600. Direct line seem to have increased their prices recently, for the same policy they wanted £850!

Norton/Heritage

Agreed value (PCGB valuation), classic car cover, cover on club organised track days IIRC, 6000 miles a year, included for all the upgrades I did, required a Thatcham approved alarm and off road over night for about £290 last time I used them.

It is weird. Most of the supermarket insurance companies seem to be direct line or Aviva and all are completely different! I've no idea how they work out their prices. Still, I guess in my case the Privilege quote is a a renewal rather than a new policy and I've been with them for the last few years so maybe that's why its cheaper than direct line. The best way to reduce the premium I know is to have a female named driver, with some policies it seems to work! I don't think I'll ever understand the thinking on this one!!

RH classic Insurance. My 944 Lux - just had the renewal, 5000 miles per year fully comp, kept in garage, £129 - can't beat that.[:D]

Another one here for Norton/Heritage...about the same amount (c.£300), and they handled a claim very well.

Mine is on the road so Classic line are no good.
Got it for a good price in the end with Henderson Taylor, its also has cover for track days.
Direct line and Aviva didnt like the engine mods.
A few people told me to try A-plan but they took 2 days to get back to me!
Heritage were good with a £2789 [:-]

The issue were it's my only car, it has to live on the road in a city, get me to work and has a few mods.

Did you get the quote online from heritage? With mine the online quote was silly high, but they rang me and got it down to £300ish, with lots of mods and I live in a part of Reading where riot vans and drug dealers are a common sight, parked offroad but no garage.

Nowell and richards brokers for me they advertise in the club magazine and porsche 911 world, really good personal service and competitive too, they have good rates for modified turbos aswell.
