Insurance and Alarm fitment

When I got my S2 a month ago I did the usual scan of insurance companies and went with Direct line as they seemed to offer the best alround price etc.
Lettter from them today saying that they will only continue cover if the car is fitted with Thatcham approved alarm. Trying to explain it has a factory fitted alarm and immobilser fell on deaf ears. They then asked me to get confirmation from Porsche that this was fitted at the factory when the car was made !!!!!!!
Has anyone had any issues with the alarm and what is or isnt fitted...........and who else is good for insurance as I sence a change coming on

George - we were with Sainsbury's. No probs with std alarm (although I think that one of the options codes on the boot sticker confirms factory-fit alarm/imobiliser?)

Have a look at the sticker on the inside of the rear panel or in your service manual, 533 indicates a factory fitted alarm.

The 'factory fit' alarm system on UK S2's was made by Hamilton & Palmer http://www.hamilton-palmer.co.uk/ on 01732 760022 and were fitted by Reading when the cars were imported. As Scott said your local OPC should be able to provide you with a letter (if you're lucky it will be for free [:)])

I'm with direct line also.

89 car so before Thatcham ratings.

I simply got a Thatch2 immobiliser fitted for £90 all in.

Problem solved and confirmation letter from Direct Line confirming ok.

If you know the car has a system which is Thatcham rated then OPC will do a letter no problem.

[FONT=arial"]I have just got our 944 S2 insured for business use with a standard factory fitted alarm & immobiliser with a broker called Adrian Flux (Highway insurance[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"] are the actual insurance company), and their number is 08700 692202. They gave a very reasonably priced quote too![FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Thanks everyone............good bye Direct Line and hello Sainsburys ( thanks Mik-ok ) £10 more, but 2 additional drivers on policy and happy to accept that a Porsche fitted alarm system is acceptable......bit of common sense at last.
