Insurance and formal valuations

Seeing as it's free, I thought I'd get a formal valuation done through PCGB. This came back higher than I have my car insured for, so thought I ought to get in touch with my insurers to let them know (and also mindful that my premium may increase accordingly). My insurer told me that they don't accept 3rd party valuations and that if I wanted to increase the insured value on my policy I'd have to pay the insurer a further £15 plus admin fee for them to conduct their own valuation. I know it's not a lot extra to pay and I'll go ahead anyway as I don't want to be underinsured, but is this normal that the PCGB valuations aren't accepted, or is my insurance company fleecing me?

It depends on the insurance company but most of the good ones will accept a valuation from a recognised club. If they dont then I would be inclined to take my business elsewhere...
