Hello all

I am looking for some help getting a price (thats reasonable) for insurance for an 86 944 turbo that I am (hopefully) picking up on Wednesday, I am probably going to transfer the insurance over from my other car that I am putting to sleep for winter.

I am sure this must be somewhere on the site, but I can't find a search button.....

Any suggestions ?

Cheers
Sean

Hi, classic insurance or are you using it as your daily drive on a regular policy ? , also how old are you roughly.

Regards

Mas

45, not a daily driver, probably around 5000 miles a year. Max no claims on main car and a great deal through NFU Mutual for second car.....this is the third ! [&:]

ClassicLine we the cheapest for me but I needed Business Class 1&2 on my policy. I fear you have to ring around a fair bit.

I'm with Classicline, they've been the best for me over the last 6 years and do an agreed value policy (free valuation if you're a Club member). They are the only broker who would do me a limited mileage "classic" policy without the car being garaged.

The problem with insurers is that they can vary so widely for different people that there's no simple answer other than phoning around loads.

At least I have a name to start with, like I say I'm going to transfer the existing over which will buy me till January, but need to get something beyond that that is not going to need me to sell a kidney !

Thanks guys.

Also try Footman James (used to be AON).

I have my heavily modified Turbo insured with them on a Classic policy for £350. Bear in mind all the mods are declared, it has an agreed value of £15k and because its over 20 years old they now give it unlimited mileage (and I'm also 45 like you)

Try Lancasters or A-Plan but as other have said there's so many variables that there is no real alternative to phoning up all the usual suspects and discover who is keenest for your business this week.

I have paid 220 and 245 I think and as ever different companies will always give different quotes for different folk but 250 seems about the norm now for a standerd 944 turbo (depending on where you live of course) RH seem to always be somewhat cheaper than everyone else though , they are clearly the bargain bucket and I will try them next time. They are probably not the cream of the crop but on a 3 , 4 or 5 grand car I wouldnt hesitate to give them a try.

Best of Luck

Not really the same kind of setuop as yourself, but I'm 38 no no claims to transfer, mine is just an '88 2.5 8v, but as a guide I'm paying £270 with Chaucer with 10,000 and commuting use.

Might even be worth looking on http://www.gocompare.com/car-insurance/, they have a classic car insurance search on that page.

Something worth thinking about is I called Lancaster when I bought my blue 924 auto about 4 years ago and they were asking for over £100 more than they were being quoted at on a search engine, and wouldn't match their own price on the phone!! Needless to say I bought it online
