Insurance demands a tracker

steed

New member
It seems the only way to get the new arrival on the tarmac is to have a tracker fitted. Is this a must for all insurance companys ? If so, can anyone recommend what tracker systems are out there and an approx price. Are any better than others ?
Cheers

Many insurance companies insist upon the fitment of a Tracker system on certain cars that are considered to be at high risk of theft. However, you should then be entitled to a discount on your premium, although, in reality, it doesn't happen because the insurance quote normally takes this into account.

The main provider is Tracker and most OPCs will fit one of their systems. You probably only need the basic one. Cost is about £300 in year one and c.£100 pa thereafter.

You will be asked to sign an annual direct debit, so, if you sell the car, don't forget to cancel it. Also, if you buy a used car with Tracker, you do not inherit the benefit of any subscription already paid. You have to re-register in your own name and pay for a new year's subscription. I think Tracker probably do very well out of this.

there are insurance companies out there that don't insist on a tracker being fitted.

Liverpool Victoria is one of these.

I know it's a lot of money, but I think well worth it. When they took my car down to the OPC on a low loader, Tracker were on the 'phone within 10 minutes reporting the vechicle having been moved without the engine having been started. I have Tracker Horizon on mine which was about £900 inc VAT.

i have to agree, i have had tracker monitor (about £500)fitted, although my insurance company dosn't insist upon it. as i think its a great idea and having had it for the last 3+ years on the Boxster know it works.
