Insurance for me :S

Hey guys.

Im a 24 year old whos just looking at buying his first Porsche. Its a Boxster S. The problem Im having is insurance, as normal!!!

Ive had many performance cars in the past such as imported Civic Type Rs and two S2000s, but the insurance on the Boxster seems silly! Ive had one average quote from Admiral for £1550 but thats the lowest I can find :(

Can anyone think of anyone who may be able to help???

Twice your age, 9 years NCD, garaged car. And the quote was £420 I think. There's a recent thread on boxa.net regarding insurange on a Boxster for a guy around your age. I'm afraid the policy quotes were all similar to what you've already received.

Avoid Admiral - they charge extra for anything over basic spec (yes, for every extra) and will only pay out on a base spec car. Don't declare the extras, and you might find yourself uninsured.

c o n f u s e d .com......
when i have had a sports car with zero no claims bonus i have always found elephant ok to build it up - 10 month policies though.
have a look at a club/car magazine for specialists too

Chris Knott: Brokers but have beaten all others for me including Admiral (i used 3 yrs ago) and NU (before that). I have posted their number on here before so a search will find it, dont have it here right now....

I'm afraid insurance is all down to your personal circumstances, so its a lottery to suggest the best place. A.Manning run a scheme for Porsche Club members so maybe worth a try, A.Plan are also good for some people.

Whoever you get quotes from ensure you declare every extra fitted to the car - some insurers will be OK with them if they are factory fitted, others will count them as modifications. Also check they pay out the value of the car as it stands and not for a basic factory spec car (if one every exists ??)

Good luck - a group 20 car at 24 years old is going to hurt - £1550 sounds quite good to me.

Bite their hands off for this quote. We own a driving school and a 17 year old has to pay this sort of money for a 1.1 hatchback now. We have seen a gradual increase in age of learner drivers and the feedback seems to be that even basic cars are getting uninsurable. At 24 you are in the age group causing twice as many accidents per licence holder than any other age range so insurers will charge higher.

Take there hand off and run! Im 23 on my second boxster, I crashed the first! so my insurance went up, decided to get a 3.2 2000 S this time(very stupid of me) its crazy now!! my quote on my old 98 2.5 was £1300 with elephant....put your mum on the insurance as a exrta driver brings it down loads :)
