Hi all,

Can anyone advise on an insurance company that will offer classic insurance cover on cars from 1997?! Or just a good, well priced insurance company??

I am trying to insure my 1997 993 c2S which is a second car and the couple of companies that I have contacted only provide classic insurance for cars from 1996 or earlier.

Cheers,

Alex

I'm looking for cover at the moment and surprised to find that the AA gave the best quote so far at just over £500 including business use and 10K miles. I've tried a few places but would like to see if I can beat this price so will try a couple more. Ann Mannings were helpful but over £200 more than the AA, but the cover did include track use. not sure if I'll get much use from that next year so I probably won't go for it!

Admiral have always been good for me. Also try Adrian Flux as their quotes were very competitive and I think their cover offered some track days as well (I could be wrong).

Have just put my 1997 C2 S on a classic policy with AON on a ltd mileage of 5000 per annum fully comp at £450. if you need the contact details let me know and i will send you them. pretty impressed with the service so far.

I went with the AA in the end - £527 with 10K miles, commuting and business use, guaranteed no-claims protrection and guaranteed courtesy car for my wife and I. Pretty happy with that as it's a £145 saving from my previous insurer. I tried a couple of others but this was the best overall.

Might I suggest that you ensure that you have agreed value cover? Otherwise, if your car were ever written off (perish that dreadful thought [:(]) you might get back significantly less than you think it's worth, IMHO. [;)]

For those of us that have more than one classic car, I would recommend Hagarty 08700 420220

Excellent multi-car policy and agreed values with recovery

I am with Lancaster £600...all in.....note it was cheaper online thean T-phone....they do agreed value too?

Will always shop about though!!

Try Nowell and Richards - UK based they have my buisness at £396 plus add ons £425 (legal etc) for my C2S.

Don't go with Norwich Union Direct - really not so Direct! I recently changed my BMW Coupe to a BMW convertible and after
an hour we were going around in circles (far eastern ones) The final straw came when I was asked what sort of VAN it was?
I explained again that it was not a van but a soft top convertible car. The reply - Does it have a sliding side door?

Just renewed my policy for the 3rd time with A Manning £463 for the 993, was only £423 for the last 2 years.

Definitely go for this! Yes, you would get back significantly less - I've always insisted on this with my (Porsche) insurance.[;)] (The "everyday" car is only worth about £1.5k!)[:D]

Hi, try moneysupermarket.com.
got my mortgage through there, my home insurance was £150 less, and my car insurance (996 C4 Cab) £457, saving me a huge amount on what my renewal was coming through at.
Good Luck, Sue

I ended up with the "AA", about £500 fully comp, protected, 32 years old on a C2.

They were not bothered about the Fabspeed exhaust, full turbo kit and wheels and TurboS front splitter etc.

Cheers

Okay, I am entering my third year of ownership, this is my first ever car, but why does the subject of Insurance have to be so difficult? I received my renewal quotation, wasn't happy & so started to look around. Found a couple of infinitely cheaper quotes took this up with my existing Insurance Company who have now equalled the competitions figure. I had to actually go out of my way to get the cheaper quote in writing & present this to my insurer to sort this out. Savings (rounded up)!? Approximately £700!!!

Do not accept your first offer, look around and push everyone to give you a better quote, whilst not relinquishing the quotations you have been given thus far.

I have heard good things about Footman James, but they were not the cheapest for me.

I renewed today with classic line for £445 including free PCGB track day cover.

Almost everyone else was £800 or over. I have claim history and 3 points, plus I live in a high-risk area so I was very happy. Car is garaged though, which helps and limited to 5,000 miles.
