Insurance for the "younger" driver

I'm considering a new cayenne V6 as my everyday car, but must be able to have my 21 year old, almost 22, son (clean licence, no accidents etc and driving since age 17) as a named driver. Despite the V6 being the entry level porsche, I have been unable to secure an insurance quote from my own (997) insurer, other recognised prestige car insurers/brokers or even Porsche GB's own insurance arm. The general response is "well it is a porsche!" The bottom line appears to be no-one will ensure a porsche for drivers under 25.

Anyone any ideas, or details of likely insurers/brokers who may be prepared to quote (other than wait over 3 years before buying)? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Be interesting to know if they take a different view of a VW Touareg! (Not wanting to suggest you buy one!)

i went through exhaustive searches for my 20yr old and yes the name porsche just causes them palpitations-no takers at all.the m3 bmw wasnt much better-cheapest i found was £3000 if he was on it[]

I looked to get my 21 yr old daughter "(clean licence, no accidents etc and driving since age 17 in her name)" insured for my Boxster 2.7. My broker said it would put the insurance up by at least 3 times what I pay now so the conversation ended there!, I'll look again when she's 25.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Dylan - cannot believe it is easier to secure a quote for an M3 than for a "basic" cayenne.

David - I have a feeling the insurers treat young females as less risky than young males.

At the end of the day an excessive insurance cost may rule out the cayenne, but what surprises me is that I cannot even get anyone to quote - not even Porsche GB's own insurers who I had presumed would be keen to encourage a new generation of Porsche owner...

Managed to eventually get a decent price £2225 (protected NCB) from Academy who advertise in PP. They are broker for Norwich Union and appear to have a discount rate with them that they are prepared to pass on to the customer. Cheapest alternatives (all using NU) were the likes of Tesco and Post Office with the lowest premium being around £3000 (with no protection on the NCB).
