Insurance For Under 25 Year Old

I just bought a 944 and then realised that I can't get insurance anywhere since I'm 24. I've given the car to an older friend and will let him enjoy it for the 3 months until I turn 25.. But I would love to drive it now - do you know of an insurer that would let me?

Thanks
Julian

Call some of the classic car insurance companies (if you havent already). There was a thread on here recently covering off the options others have taken.

Good Luck

Thanks Andrew, I'll have a look for that thread. I tried of few of the classic car companies, but they had "no under 25s" rule unfortunately.

I bought mine when I was 23 and got insured straight away (£1k fully comp though []). It was with Firebond at the time, which has now been bought out by Footman James, but I think their classic policy is 25+ now. Theres loads of classic car insurers out there, you've just got to do a lot of leg work to get the prices. Many only insure over 25's though which is a pain as its not always made clear.
I'm with Heritage at the moment, under Norton Insurance for just over £300 IIRC - and I'm 25. 5k miles a year but I don't accrue any NCB for some reason as its classic. Not that I'm hugely bothered at that price.

Theres also Hagerty and... well, google is your friend [:D]

Im 24 driving a modified turbo as in my sig. Classic line insured me fully comp 5k miles pa with 9k agreed value for 900.

I was 24 when I first got mine, just on normal insurance (parked on the street, only car) I paid about £580 with 3 years no claims. Now I'm 26 it's dropped to about £400.

Try Lancaster, Footman James, Admiral (they wanted £900 FC to insure me on the S2 when I was 23 with 2 years NCB), and Swinton.

elephant have always been great with me. Had a 924 turbo when I was 20 then a tvr chimaera with them when I was 23. Pretty cheap to. I am now with hagerty for 944 turbo but I am 26.

Drove various 944's from age 18 to 25 first turbo at 19. Came across a lot of NOO under 25's and a few silly prices, every year they say, ahh well the regs have changed now and you cant but there's always someone out there willing to insure you. Adrian flux usually will but cost is high at about £1250 for a modified turbo.

I'm sure if you search you'll find a quote for just under the £1000 mark (depending on where you live).

Off topic you do find some STUPID rules though with the insuirance world. I insured my TVR Cerbera fully comp through privilage for just over £800. I've just bought myself an old 3.0 M3 for the RWD season and it costs me £1600per year?! I mean seriously!! Who thinks up these figures.

I just did a quick online quote with heritage, just out of interest.
I'm 38, never ever claimed on my insurance, garaged, in a nice area, limited to 1500 miles per year.
Ready - £700 yes £700!( and the excess was £1100!)
that's the same as what I payed for my 944 2.5 when I was 23!
I don't know where these people get their quotes from. I currently pay £200 with Swiftcover.
What gets me is that they advertise in Porsche Post, thus giving the impression that they are specialists in classic cars. I've had better quotes from direct line, swinton, etc.
What I'm saying is shop around, a lot. And I'm sorry to say it doesn't seem to get better the older you get. I remember being 23 & thinking when I'm 25 it'll get better, it didn't. I wish someone had told me that back then!
