Insurance ideas?

Folks,

Directline not doing the best by me this year! I reckon I do about 8000 miles a year - any ideas on who to try for a cheap quote?

Cheers,

Mark

The 'posh' bit of DL (Privilege) beat all the specialist for me this year. I do 16K/year, parked off road (but not garaged), 3 points FP. They beat Adrian Flux by £100, and do interest free payments which lessens the pain somewhat.

Hastings are also worth a try, they quoted £600 but when they found I had mods they increased that to £2,400 - even though it's only a factory-fit RS bodykit and no engine mods.

I am insured with Adrian flux. 370 pounds a year. 5k per year, garaged with a second car.
1995 C2 Cab. I do live in the West Country so maybe rates are lower.

Manning UK have been pretty competitive for me for the last 2 years, plus their policies include trackday cover.

Admiral are good for me. £521 fully comp with protected no claims, 7k a year. I have full NCB, no accidents or convictions. Parked on the drive with upgraded wheels and Supercup exhausts.

Try the companies towards the back of PP. Most of the brokers give good rates, but a bit of time spent on the phone playing one off against the other can yield even better results.

Hmmm...DL doesn't seem too bad as I am getting around £460 for protected no claims etc....

Thanks for all the ideas tho!

I'm very happy with Classic Line. Around £350 for 300 miles per year, agreed value & 2nd car.

Mine's coming up for renewal and I'm still calling a few more companies but I got a quote today from Carole Nash for £331 including breakdown cover. They're sending it in writing but it's way below what I'm paying at present.

Try Hagerty they have just done me a superb deal covering the Speedster and wifes SLK on one policy both with full UK and Europe breakdown and agreed value ( SLK only does about 3K a year). Cut my premium by 1/3[:)]

Just had my renewal notice from Direct line. £327 (up to 5000 miles per year) seems good enough to me. (I'm an old git mind!)

Best of the recent quotes I had was from Admiral with a second driver on the same policy. And if you've got two cars, get a dual policy from them and its something like 23% less.

I've been with Direct Line and now Privilege on my older car and whilst they were cheap to start with, their renewals now appear quite expensive.

You should get out more Roddy. Agree with Classic Line, they were half the price of all other companies and get free cover for PCGB track days.

Gentlemen , you all seem to be missing the point, your 993 is now a classic, with an agreed value......

Cheap insurance simply means its worth between 12.000 and 15.000 in a prang, take it or leave it ???

Hagerty Int Silverstone, and other do an agreed value, try replacing a mint 993 4s for 15.000.....

I have 4 cars with Hagerty on 1 policy all agreed value to over 120.000.

Cost 700 pounds, All on between 3 and 5 thousand miles a year.

other insurances company do the same its a CLASSIC

Good advice Barry. For the uninitiated please confirm route to agreed value insurance. I read in our Club Mag., I think, that Steve Kevlin will give a definitive valuation after reviewing car history, specs. and photos. Is this correct and is there a fee involved? Thanks.

I've just paid £430 with Footman James. I am a little confused - when asked the value of the car I put £25,000 (a little optimistic I agree). This value was then mentioned on the policy schedule I subsequently received.

Does that constitute an "agreed value" ? or is it just wishful thinking on my part, which will be ignored completely in the event of a claim ?

Confused from Wiltshire

Does that constitute an "agreed value"

Afraid is does not. Its a standard question what ever car you buy and will appear on any car insurance policy.
They would only pay you bottom book and whatever they think they could bully you down to.

Agreed Valuation. You have to ask for agreed valuation policy. They will either send someone to inspect or may ask you to take photos of inside outside of the car. They will want to know condition and what if any work and money you have spent to date. They may well ask for copies of receipts for work carried out. Upon completion/agreement of valuation they will frank the photos send them back with a policy that states in the event of loss you will be paid a fixed sum for the loss.
Thats how the system worked I did mine with Lancasters.

Thank you. That's helpful. I'd better get on to my insurers.

What does intrigue me though, is how the cost of 993/964 insurance has dropped from £700-£800 a few years ago to £300-£400 now. Not really sure why this has happened, although I'm not complaining. Can anyone in insurance explain what's happening ?
