Insurance/Immobilisers/Trackers

I seem to have hit a problem in renewing my insurance. My current insurers, Peart, in response to a higher declared value, are insisting that I now fit a tracker(5).
I have contacted Classicline and due to the fact that I have had the car for so long and that the car is garaged, they do not insist on a tracker.
However, they do need me to have an alarm and immobiliser whereas my car only has the latter.
So, what to do? What do you all have? Are Trackers intrusive, heavy, ugly expensive etc? What do they cost? Similarly with alarms, has anyone got recent experience of alarms, how intrusive, expensive, do they drain your battery?
I've left this a bit late and don't know which way to jump.I really dont't want any junk adding at all but fear I may have to. Any input gratefully received, please.

I am with Classicline and they were happy to insure my 64RS fully comp and agreed value, based on the OEM alarm/immobiliser.

Most other insurers insisted on having a Tracker due to the value of the car.

Thanks David, so yours is a factory fitted item, it sounds like I may need to ring my local Porsche dealer? Sounds Expensive!

From what i recall . Alarm /immobiliser has to be thatcham approved cat 2 i think. Doubt you could get oem one , unless £££££££££

My RS has the factory fitted PA2000 alarm/Immobiliser.

My last Porsche needed an alarm/immobiliser for insurance purposes. I had a Toad Thatcham Approved system professionally fitted. Totally unobtrusive, no holes needed to be drilled anywhere, reasonably priced & very easy to use - simply had a 'teardrop' transponder on the keyring which 'spoke' to a receiver fitted behind the dash near the igniton barrel.

Not so fast. Classic line insure my NGT with no tracker, no alarm, no immobilizer. I live in fear of letting someone at the cars wiring loam. Keep pushing they should agree to it. Alternatively Hegarty are good at this, although they wont give track cover.

Rich, surely you have a tracker fitted, mandatory requirement for cars insured over £100K!

is it just me or is the idea of discussing what security you do or don't have fitted on a virtually public forum seem a little foolhardy ?

My insurance company have insisted a tracker for my 64rs on top of the factory alarm due to value of the car. Apparently it fits their criteria for one to be fitted

My RS is protected by a tracker ...actually two trackers, is sprayed with Smartwater, is patrolled 24/7 by a small battalion of ex-Special Forces personnel (I've never seen their faces) and sleeps with a Rottweiler called Hans.

Cobra make a very good tracker / immobiliser --- no holes or switches, just a dongle.

I should also say that they are absolutely on the button. Every time anybody pulls the ignition cut-off to open the bonnet [:D][;)]

I get a telephone call, --- excuse me Sir, do you know where your car is ?? [:)]

I came across this issue last year when renewing my cover. Many companies required a tracker for vehicles over £50k.

Bear in mind that in addition to the fitting/ purchase cost of the tracker you also pay an annual sum for the service.......

What are people insuring their cars for value wise this year? It was suggested that £60k was about right last year...........

Decision made, gone for a Toad Sterling 1 alarm/immob. No drilling, obviously there is the unfortunate need to break into the loom but hopefully that can be where the existing immobiliser is fitted. I have spoken at length with the fitter who comes recommended and i am happy that he will be sympathetic to me and the car. There is the consolation of increased security and at £350 fitted, not too painful. Before anyone asks, insured at £55k which may cause some response.

Thanks for the input

Ian

May be low but ?
