just about to renew insurance on the RS - used Herts Insurance Consultants who were in EVO magazine recently.
Fully comp etc £700 including all organised non competitive trackdays. normal excess of £600, trackday excess of £1-2000 dependant on experience.
seems like a good deal so thought I would share it

Yeah - number and contact anyone?

I've just had a quote from Feroz's recommendation of Classic line of £570 for 3000 miles and free cover for all "PCGB trackdays, Porsche RS Club or certain other 'splinter' clubs" - their words.

Be interested in comparing.

Feroz - what have you managed to get covered in the policy at no charge as 'Porsche RS club and splinter clubs as £262 for all 'other' track days is mighty hefty?????

J

Hi Jason. They have covered RMA, Heritage, PCGB, Autotrack for me this year with no charge. Their main concern seems to be the type of cars that will be on track.

Excuse my maths, what is the 262 you refer to?

Regards

It says "all other track days must be referred to the insurers who reserve the right to decline cover. if cover is permitted a charge of £262.50 will be payable per track day."

Jason - I don't remember seeing or hearing about the £262 and I certainly haven't paid that much for track cover. I t has been a case of either being covered free (those I asked for listed above) or declined eg Book a track.

Depends how much flexibility you want but that is enough for me.

Regards

PS - where are the pics?

I rang these guys when my insurance was up for renewal and they told me they only covered classic Porsches - apparently this is not the case after all...

Ok bought EVO - managed to find the article....

I've just renewed with AON Classic.

My policy gives me 5000 miles, ocassional class 1 use (i.e. commuting) and 5 free trackdays with reputable companies in the uk, i.e. I've just done Brands with RMA and they covered that but would not cover Spa last may with Autotrack (combination of it being outside UK and they had no prior experience of whether I could drive on the track or not).

Cost was about £625 although as this is a classic policy there is no no-claims discount and you need a daily driver policy in place (they did not take details of this).

Nice car - I noticed it at Brands, I was there with a silver Mk2 GT3.
I'm insured with Peart Associates. I can do trackdays at 0.1% of insured value per trackday. However excess on trackdays is 10% of value of car.

Just to update you on how quotes compared for me in the last week.

33yo, 3rd car, speeding 3pts in Jan 03, no convictions/accidents, garaged, decent postcode area (not rated), s/d/p use only

Classic Line: £570 for 3000 miles, £710 for 5000 miles - trackdays covered with PCGB and similarly organised non competitive events free of charge - 10% excess on these days

Capital Insurance - £590 for 5000 miles no track day cover

Norton Insurance - @£700 for 3000 miles with PCGB trackdays free

AON - £793 for 3000 miles - 5 free track days

Herts Ins Cons - £1600!!! Could only find one insurer who would even consider (Kinetic)...!

Went with Classic Line - thanks Feroz for the tip![;)]

Hope this is of some use to you all.

Whoa, 10% excess. Thats a lot on a GT3!

Excess with AON is £2400 on the track on a car value of £28K (I should update that). I wonder if that is a % or a fixed value?

Jeremy - just about every company I have spoken to have an excess of 10% while on track - sure your £2400 wasn't on an original value of £24k?[;)]

Jeremy not at the rate they are depreciating, anyway sorry I could not make it to brands but horizontal rain......and when I tried the M25 was mad so went back home shame it would have been great to see you..hopefully next year more playdays regards Peter

Jason you are right, i've just checked and yes 10%. They must have misread the value of my vehicle last week.

Pete! sorry you didn't make it. Paul and I had a blast although we could not drive together as his setup as all wrong. This little RS is certainly working out on the track, handling was very safe/predictable on the Dunlop SSRs. Look forward to seeing you soon.

What do you guys do when the company does not offer track cover for free?

I'm with ClassicLine, and my thinking is that it isn't worth paying (about £70??) for additional single-day cover if you're still faced with an excess of 10% of the insured value (thats £3K for me). Surely the main risk is 3rd party liability, and that is excluded from track day cover in any case.

Would be interested in your thoughts.

If you stuffed your car and it was written off, GBP70 would seem a fair price. I know the chances are small but I guess insurance is really there to protect you when the unexpected happens and depends on your attitude to risk. I couldn't afford to lose 30k if I got it wrong.

I also do bike track days and the trade off is more acceptable due to the lower value of the bike.

Just my thoughts.

i tracked the car for a year without any cover - and just took extra care.
having seen a few offs recently (including people rolling cars), and the fact that I've yet to hit anything (therefore am getting more likely to put it in the barriers soon by my thinking) means that i'm paying slightly more for the insurance to get the trackdays cover. if the cars upside down in the gravel then £2k excess is a small price to pay..

as feroz said - i cant afford to stump up the £30k+ to buy myself another car...
