Insurance: Please Help!!

Hi can anyone help!! I'm about to buy a beautiful 944 pending on insurance. I'm 25, male and live in London so the fully comprehensive price is worth more than the car. I've got 4 years no claims on another classic, which I still own and have been driving without any penalties for 7 years.

Does anyone now any reasonable insurers who won't brand me a boy racer so I can buy the car of my dreams!!

When i was 25 i used performance direct who put me with chaucer classic cars. This was insured as a second car 3k limited mileage kept on the drive with two other additional drivers at not extra cost. less than four hundred quid.

Now (2 yrs on ) im a PGCB member and keep the car in a garage i use A Manning U.K Limited, oh and now its insured as my primary car.

If you can genuinely say that your other classic is your main car then you should be able to get the 944 on a limited mileage classic policy. I'm with RH Specialist Cars and only pay £200 per year

i was 23 when i had my 944 lux. now 26. 1 years no claims and insured it with Lancaster 01480484848 cost me £450 fully compe!! my 911 is with chaucer due to mods on the car but is £343 fully compe.

Try phoning T.R. Young's, ask for Stuart and tell him you got his number from the PCGB forum. He's an old-fashioned small-scale broker who specialises in classic insurance. Knows 944s well.

Also give Lancaster Insurance and Carole Nash a shot.

It can never hurt to get more quotes. I've used all three of the above for various 944s. They've all been cheap for different reasons at different times. The trick is to get a limited mileage classic policy. Anything up to 6,000 miles per year should get you a good cheap price.

Great thanks, I have tried all of the above but the cheapest so far is around £1200 as living in London I don't have a garage so will have to park on the road. It doesn't help either that I'm a TV Producer which insurers hate so I'm having to play that down a lot. I really want this 944 but it's looking doubtful.

Please please keep any ideas coming; I have to decide whether to buy of walk away from the car this weekend!!

What about adrian flux there normally pretty good, dare i say it but buy a max power mag and check out all the insurance for youngsters. Tried confused.com yet??

Yeah I've tried Adrian Flux and Confused but for fully comp it was £2400 which is basically the price of the car. I'll would go 3rd party for first year if I have to but ideally I'd love to get a deal like you guys got at my age. I'll keep looking and hoping that as this will be my second car on a limited mileage I might get some luck.

Just have to say how great this site is, 5 replies in a couple of hours is brilliant, thanks for the help.

Don't know if this is any help to you, but my experience was that I had to bite the (expensive) bullet and pay out for my first year of Porsche ownership. I paid around £1,100 for my first year's insurance, which was more than I paid for that old 944 at the time "¦ but when I traded it in for a newer model I took a part refund and my latter 944 only came in around £700. I found myself a garage to use and that brought my fee down to £350. Then I bought a 944 Turbo and miraculously got it insured for £298. In the space of eighteen months or so, the cost has dropped dramatically whilst my cars have improved!

Thanks that does help. I was told, off the record by one of the Performance direct people that I had already owned and driven this car for a year that it would have only cost me £400 full comp. Their thinking is that if you can prove you can handle and have experience of driving such a car then the cost drops dramatically. Seemingly the expect you to have accidents if you're not used to the power and speed of them. Their caution of how great they are to drive and the power they can produce just makes me want one even more!

I may have to just shell out for the first year and make sure I get a better deal on the second. Thanks for the help.

I'm 28 and insure my 944 S2 for only £295 ( 3k limited mileage) through Jardine Faber Insurance with only a £100 excess. Give em a try - you never know. The chap i bought the car off said that year after year companys change their pricing, so this year i might pay £295 with Jardine Faber but my renewal might jump to £500 next year and so i have to shop around. It is indeed a minefield, with my quotes ranging between the £295 and near £3k...!!

I was 18 when I bought my 944 S2 and that is £3800 probably not a lot of help but it was the cheapest I could find and that is with Endsleigh (however you spell it)

RH Specialist is who I am with I live in London, I am a little older but I am paying £134 fully comp on a 944 Turbo with a 3k limit.

Try A plan (off Pistonheads stickies), they have offered some good rates in the past. Also worth trying Marsh who do Porsche's official policies. I am still insured with them as they offered the best rates surprisingly. As a third car but without any NCB on this one they happily agreed to match the full NCB I have on the other 2 and have said I could walk away with a certificate ofr 6 yrs if I left next time. Seems very reasonable to me.

Hi just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who helped me on this insurance issue. After trying all of the suggestions plus many others, Elephant.co.uk worked out the best for me with a premium of £590 3rd party. Which although isn't cheap it will do until I can find a garage and get the cheaper classic car insurance.

So now I am a seriously excited 944 owner and will post photos soon.

Thanks once again,
Wesley

Try Peart you should be able to find them through google.

My experience with Peart has always been bad from a customer service point of view.

Cheap quotes but avoid if at all possible.
