Insurance Quotes

I have had a renewal from ClassicLine and it's over £100 more this year because they have not got there usual insurance company.
Last year £215 this year £310.
I've tried Locktons but they're quoting £362 even though I have another 964 insured with them for £213.
Any ideas of other insurance companies?

On my cars I have a mix of Classicline and Heritage.
Heritage is cheaper on the RS Replica at £260.00, just renewing this week, its gone up a tenner this year, can't grumble at that.

Thanks Steve I'll put it on the list.
I enjoyed being with ClassicLine, especially as they provided trackday insurance but a 50% increase for someone in a semi rural location with no change in circumstances is taking the p**s. Maybe hitting 70 in April puts me in a new bracket, I've no idea.

Hi David

The Manning cover also will includes track day coverage, but with a 10% vehicle value excess as well as vehicle recovery.

Hi Dave

i will never understand how brokers/insurance co's arive at their figures. I have a 993 turbo with manning and a gt3rs with lockton each wants the the other car as well but neither can get anywhere near the others quote. I dread next year as i to will be in the new number. It would be nice to see how they arrive at their prices, it is all shrouded in mystery. Should be more transparent.

Hi David

I have 2 cars insured with Locktons. I found that by explaining to them that I have had a cheaper quote from another company they offered to match it.
Incidentally my second car is a Mercedes which was involved in a prang some weeks ago. A neighbour reversed into my car whilst parked outside my house. It only took one phone call to Locktons, and within 30 minutes their legal department called me to say that they were taking care of everything and to take the car to the repairer of my choice.
4 days later my car was ready for collection. An excellent job all round with no loss of deductibles.
Although Locktons are slightly more expensive, the service is great and I would certainly recommend them

Hi Brendan
I'm finding Lockton's service is wanting.
Twice I've filled in their "out of office" form requesting a call back and nothing.

Regards the quote, I told them that I already had a much cheaper policy with them on another 964 I own, admittedly for 1,500 miles instead of 5,000 but it made no difference. I remember a similar difference last year over the same issues.
I think you're marked as a special customer being Chairman of Motorsports and get a different treatment.

Hi Terry,
it looks like I'll be following you.

Heritage £338 with £400 xcess and 4k miles.
Manning £260 with trackday coverage, legal aid, own choice of repairer, 5k miles and £200 xcess. Winner by a large margin.

Thank you all for your suggestiions

Interesting stuff Dave. We need to remember though that most (if not all) the numbers we dial are agents and brokers who are supposed to search for the best option underwriters. I suspect that some don't search fully, are on some kind of deal or have very limited number of underwriters.

Some of the quotes from others here using the same agents as I did seem to have very different results for exactly the same car - wierd.

My criteria/requirements -> Porsches 968 and 964 | 3k annual mileage | some track day cover | UK/EU breakdown cover | agreed valuations | both cars garaged, rural location etc.

What I have managed today:

Heritage (0121 248 9400) - [Both = £468 | 968 = £208 | 964 = £230]
Lancaster (01480 484848) - [waiting for quote]
Lockton (0330 123 4317) - [Both = £555 | 968 = £265 | 964 = £351]
ManningUK (01491 578 759) - [Both = not offered | 968 = £375 | 964 = £420]
Adrian Flux (0800 916 1288) - [Both = £510 | 968 = £330 | 964 = £271]
ClassicLine (01455 639 000) - [Both = £450 | 968 = £not offered| 964 = £not offered]

Lockton seemed the least interested unless I had a GT4 or GT3RS (thier words). WOuld only offer standard cover on older classics. Silly.
