insurance renewal time

My broker has just sent me my renewal notice. They are not using the insurer I had last year and have offered my a new one at a premium of £350 a year. Bargain! (not) for a 34 year old, car kept off road and 3000 miles limited mileage agreed value £10,000 [] My pemium last year was £240 so the cheeky buggers want to increase it by nearly 50%

What deals/brokers do you have? I need to get a better deal than this.

I have used quite a few people in the past. This has happened on more than one occasion, my cynical thought is they try to snare you with a cheaper price only to raise it the next year hoping you won't be bothered to change. I'm sure they wouldn't really do that though []

I use Carole Nash at the moment as I got 10% off for PCGB and a discount for both my cars. Which conveniently renew at the same time.

I use carole nash as well, 2 years running with in £5 of each other, can't say fairer than that.[]

I phoned 10 insurers today. After spending an age on hold I obtained the following results:

1 (Carol Nash) would not insure me as the engine is modified[]
6 would not insure me as the car is not kept in a garage[]
2 would only quote me non classic policies at premiums of around £900[]
1 offered me insurance at £409, £60 more than my present broker.[]

It seems that in the wake of big losses for insurance companies in recent years they are becoming very choosy. Soon you won't be able to get cover unless the car is guarded by a squadron of marines and a dozen dobermans[&:]

The best quote I got was also with Carol nash but I had the same prob as you in that my engine had mods.

I am now with Footman James which were one of only three that would touch me.
Got the Porker & my daily runabout for less than the Porker last year with no mods, albeit on limited milage.
Haven't got their number to hand but they are in PP.

Footman James were the ones that gave me the £409 quote. Not to worry, I have renewed my insurance with Jardine Faber for this year. By renewal time next year I will have moved house and built a garage to house my wheels in, giving me more choice of insurers, although I hope Jardine Faber are competetive still as I have been very happy with them over the years.
