Insurance Repairs

Thankfully not in the Boxster but the Smart.

After a coming togther with a Honda SUV (Honda 0 - 1 Smart btw [8D]) it spent a couple of weeks in the shop having the plastic bits rearranged.

The car was delivered back with two new tyres, both were on the nearside. As the car has 18000 miles on it and the rears in particular were approaching the wear indicators I was frankly aghast that the car was returned in what I consider to be a dangerous condition.

I am in the middle of venting my spleen via letter and I was on the point of adding that I didn't expect the two offside tyres to be replaced on the claim but I suddenly thought should they have been?

Any comments or experience?

when my brother was hit from the side he got a couple of new tyres but not the whole set - i don't think he was near the end of them though. my understanding is if the tyres are badly flat spotted by a shunt then you get new ones. poss because yours were at the end of their life you don't get new ones?

Have to agree John, fitting new tyres to one side and leaving the other side barely legal seems strange - whilst i wouldn't expect the insurance to pick up the cost for all 4 tyres i would have hoped they would contact me to advise the mismatch.
